About The Position

As a Senior Professional Staff Nurse, you’ll be a key member of our care team, setting the standard for high-quality nursing care. You’ll lead patient care activities, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and support a healing environment through compassionate, evidence-based practice.

Requirements

  • BSN preferred; Master’s in Nursing or related field may substitute for certification requirement.
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
  • Must receive and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on annual Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluations.
  • Completion of 2 professional contributions annually (or 1 contribution with certification), aligned with department, hospital, or system goals and approved by Unit Director per UPMC’s My Nursing Career Ladder.
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead others in applying the nursing process.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced, complex environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning.
  • Demonstrates cultural awareness and contributes to a healthy workplace.
  • Current RN license in Pennsylvania or a compact state.
  • CPR (BLS) certification per AHA standards (didactic + skills demo) within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS, PALS, and NIMS certifications within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • UPMC-approved nursing certification (not required if Master’s or DNP is held).
