About The Position

The National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) is an active network comprised of over forty-member public health institutes located throughout all ten Health and Human Services regions. NNPHI also serves as the National Coordinating Center for Public Health Training (NCCPHT) and hosts an affiliate network of ten Regional Public Health Training Centers (Regional PHTCs) serving all fifty states and US territories. Public health institutes (PHIs) are nonprofit organizations that improve the public’s health by fostering innovation, leveraging resources, and building partnerships across sectors, including government agencies, communities, the health care delivery system, media, and academia. NNPHI and its member institutes work together to implement public health policy and program initiatives throughout the nation. NNPHI offices are located in New Orleans and Washington, DC. The NNPHI mission is to support national public health system initiatives and strengthen public health institutes to promote multi-sector activities resulting in measurable improvements of public health structures, systems, and outcomes. NNPHI’s vision is innovation-fostering public health institutes across the nation collaborating to improve population health. NNPHI collaborates with its member public health institutes and a wide range of national, state, tribal, and local partners to support public health initiatives. These collaborative efforts promote health equity, support public health and health systems collaboration, build the capacity of the public health system, encourage health in all policies, and promote evidence based public health practice. Position Summary: The Program Manager will work independently and collaboratively to lead projects within the Research and Evaluation team. This position will provide high-level support to NNPHI leadership and staff, public health institutes, funders, and other partner organizations in the planning and implementation of project activities related to the public health infrastructure improvement project. A successful applicant will demonstrate several years of experience in research and evaluation, as well as a proven track record of providing program management leadership, project direction and project management with federal funders and other diverse partners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall project management, including developing and managing timelines, contracting, scope of work and budget management, leading project planning and implementation, and coordinating with NNPHI staff, members, consultants, and partners to achieve stated goals.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with funders, partners, contractors, and project participants/collaborators.
  • Facilitate advisory and other committees as needed for program implementation.
  • Facilitate small and large group meetings, internally and externally.
  • Lead research-related activities, as needed, including literature reviews and environmental scans, including searching academic databases, reading and synthesizing published studies, and writing reports.
  • Synthesize data from multiple sources (e.g., surveys, secondary data, literature reviews) and interpreting findings so that they are relevant and meaningful to public health practitioners, policymakers and other stakeholders.
  • Present study findings to community and stakeholder audiences at various forums including national conferences.
  • Lead the development of grant proposals and reports to funders.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to document and share lessons learned both internally and externally.
  • Support the engagement of NNPHI team members and supervise staff as assigned; participate in performance assessments of program staff, goal setting, and support professional development on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborate with other portfolios to support any evaluation needs.
  • Identify technological tools to enhance and support NNPHI’s capacity and programs.
  • Perform other duties related to program management.
