About The Position

GFT is seeking a Project Accountant to join our team in New York, NY. This role requires regular attendance in our New York office. At GFT, we are building the future through strong construction and program management services rooted in quality, safety, innovation, and sustainability. Our construction management teams oversee every phase of a project to help ensure work is delivered on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with safety and quality standards. What you’ll be challenged to do: As a Project Accountant, you will manage accounting and financial oversight functions in support of major construction contracts. You will oversee contract record keeping, review financial documentation for compliance, and support project leadership through accurate reporting and financial controls. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • 6 years of full-time accounting experience
  • 3 years of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity
  • Or a comparable combination of education and experience
  • Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Notary Public in New York preferred, or willingness to obtain licensure within 30 days of hire
  • Construction industry and/or public agency experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities

Responsibilities

  • Managing day-to-day accounting functions for assigned projects
  • Maintaining and overseeing financial records for major construction contracts
  • Preparing and reviewing payment requisitions and invoices for billing
  • Analyzing contractor and supplier documentation, including labor information, contract requirements, AIA invoice forms, waivers of lien, certified payrolls, and prevailing wage verification
  • Processing and overseeing Accounts Payable entries
  • Supporting financial reporting and ensuring compliance with contract and agency requirements
  • Providing administrative or supervisory support related to project accounting functions
