About The Position

The Project Engineer works closely with Project Managers, mechanical and civil engineers, technicians, and municipal clients to deliver projects from planning and design through construction support while ensuring technical accuracy, quality, and schedule performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 4+ years of relevant post-graduate engineering experience
  • Experience supporting municipal infrastructure or water/wastewater projects
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and municipal infrastructure systems
  • Experience preparing technical reports, construction documents, and specifications
  • Ability to coordinate technical work across multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong problem-solving, organization, and project management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with engineering design software, CADD/BIM tools, and hydraulic or process modeling systems preferred
  • Multi-state licensure may be required based on project assignments

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Engineering Design Support the planning and design of wastewater treatment facilities, lift stations, and municipal pumping systems
  • Perform and review engineering calculations, hydraulic evaluations, and equipment sizing for mechanical systems
  • Develop mechanical layouts, equipment specifications, and construction documents
  • Assist with the preparation of design reports, technical memoranda, and regulatory documentation
  • Coordinate mechanical system integration with civil, electrical, and structural design teams
  • Project Execution Lead assigned project tasks and technical components with minimal oversight
  • Monitor scope, schedule, and budgets for assigned project tasks and communicate progress with project leadership
  • Coordinate work performed by technicians and junior staff to ensure consistency and quality
  • Prepare construction specifications, cost estimates, and engineering documentation
  • Support construction phase services including responding to contractor questions and reviewing submittals
  • Field Work & Construction Support Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observation
  • Review construction progress and verify compliance with design plans and specifications
  • Document field observations and assist in resolving technical issues during construction
  • Support commissioning and startup activities for mechanical systems when applicable
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Work closely with Project Managers and internal teams to ensure project goals are achieved
  • Participate in client meetings and technical discussions related to project deliverables
  • Mentor junior staff and support their professional development
  • Contribute to proposal development and project pursuits
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, design standards, and project workflows
