About The Position

The Project Geologist’s primary role is to provide geological and field management expertise to manage field mineral exploration programs for GroundTruth Geological Services Projects and companies we contract our services to. The Project Geologist will be responsible for ensuring that exploration programs are undertaken with the highest standards of Safety, Quality of Work and Integrity for all staff and subcontractors supporting the program. The Project Geologist will co-design field programs with the help and mentorship of the under the Geology, Surficial and/or Drilling divisions of the Technical Department. The job will primarily involve fieldwork during active exploration projects; and remote, office based during planning/proposal building, data review/interpretation, presentation and report writing. The Project Geologist will be involved in fieldwork management and oversight- including exploration technical proposals, program planning; staffing, training, and staff supervision; on-project oversight, active technical steering; data interpretation, presentation and report writing. The Project Geologist will report directly to the Senior Geologist, who will then communicate the results to clients.

Requirements

  • Geology degree (BSc.)
  • Registered G.I.T (Geoscientist in Training) in a Canadian province or territory
  • 3+ years of field program experience
  • 3 geology-related positions in the mining industry.
  • Canadian Citizen or valid Canadian Permanent Resident
  • Experience supervising geological field and drilling campaigns and managing staff and contractors required to complete exploration objectives.
  • Advanced 3D software experience, GIS and Microsoft Office.
  • An ability to think about geologic processes across time and at different scales.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey ideas and information professionally in writing and verbally.
  • Write and present comprehensive reports on geological findings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to prepare and deliver writing technical reports, papers, and presenting findings to stakeholders and presentations to assist senior management in decision-making.
  • Demonstrated strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to provide ethical, client-facing geological expertise with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Effective project management capabilities and a capacity to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Valid P.Geo or eligible for P.Geo registration
  • Valid high-level wilderness (WFR) or occupational first aid (OFA3)
  • Remote fieldwork experience
  • With 4+ seasons of bedrock mapping experience
  • Valid PAL (Possession & Acquisition License)
  • Fluent or high proficiency in French +/- Spanish
  • Valid US work permit visa

Responsibilities

  • Oversee exploration activities including geological mapping, prospecting, sampling, geophysical surveys and drill programs on grassroots exploration programs.
  • Development of field programs with the guidance and mentorship of the Senior Geologist or designated direct report.
  • Work with the Lead Field Geologists and the Field Soil/Drill Supervisors to oversee the daily planning and execution of field programs, such as helicopter schedules, supply runs, crew set outs, and sample management.
  • Conduct prospecting and geological mapping of designated target areas, including the collection of various geochemical samples (rock, soil, silt, and till).
  • Supervise or participate in assistance of core and RC logging as needed, usually as relief of designated logging geologists.
  • Perform geological interpretation of field projects, including the development of geological maps, cross-sections, long sections and level plans, utilizing all available data.
  • Certify data, maps, reports and interpretations are properly reviewed and approved for external release before sending.
  • Present proficient preparation of assessment and client reports.
  • Confirm flight data and project information are maintained and up to date
  • Collaborate in the development of geological, geochemical and geophysical, technical procedures and SOP development for all key tasks to ensure they are standardized, fit for purpose and exceed industry standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Implement and maintain systems and procedures required for the execution of all technical aspects of exploration programs, including prospecting and mapping field protocols, data collection methods and QA/QC.
  • Certify that sample shipments are properly documented and shipped on a timely and consistent basis.
  • Certify and confirm that data collected by GTE field staff is accurate according to protocol and properly archived.
  • Manage GroundTruth Exploration project seasonal field staff and oversee field crew responsibilities.
  • Monitor Lead Field Geologists and Field Soil/Drill Supervisors to ensure the operations planner is maintained and up to date by them.
  • Supervise and liaise with exploration employees and contractors (drilling, geophysical).
  • Assist in the training of GTE technical personnel both in the Company’s Health and Safety protocols and their specific work activities.
  • Responsible for managing seasonal field staff and services operated by GroundTruth Exploration Inc., including but not limited to:
  • Execute daily Safety meetings as well as after Action Shift summaries, and all Emergency Response Plans (ERP).
  • Ensure GTE staff and contractors follow all the Companies Health and Safety protocols and procedures.
  • Report all Hazards, Near Misses, Close Calls, Incidents, Injuries and Non-conformances.
  • Adhere to all Safety Employee Rights and Responsibilities, including but not limited to, refusal of any unsafe work, whilst working towards a safe alternative.
  • Work competently, safely and professionally always: in the field, in camp and transit. Participating in daily Safety Meetings as well as After Action Shift summaries, and all Emergency Response Plans (ERP).
  • Wear and maintain all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure GroundTruth’s core values of social and environmental responsibility are visibly upheld to our clients, local communities and stakeholders to promote trust and a positive reputation.
  • Ensure all supervised field staff and contractors conduct themselves professionally while they are on the project and in nearby communities.
  • Ensure all required communications with clients, stakeholders and staff are undertaken with accuracy, timeliness and professionalism.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information, while ensuring all communications to GroundTruth Management are transparent as necessary.
