About The Position

Kent, Campa and Kate Incorporated (KCK) is a federal contracting company that provides professional services to Government Agencies. We are currently seeking candidates for a Proofreader I (Office of the Historian) position in Arlington, VA at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center (NFATC), formerly Foreign Service Institute (FSI). This posting is for a part-time position, anticipated to up to 30 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in editing manuscripts related to U.S. foreign relations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent years of experience (in addition to experience minimum).
  • Must possess a high school diploma, U.S. Citizenship, and fluency in the English Language.
  • Thorough knowledge of the general history of the United States, world history, and major recent developments in U.S. foreign policy;
  • Thorough knowledge of the structure of the Department of State and of other agencies concerned with foreign affairs;
  • Thorough knowledge of standard English grammar, punctuation, and diction; excellent writing, spelling, and proofreading ability;
  • Thorough knowledge of established editing reference manuals and guidelines, including the GPO Style Manual and FRUS Style Guide.

  • Work experience in an educational or training institute.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies the text of typeset pages (including all headers, signatures, and footnotes) ensures conformity with the edited manuscript and with Government Publishing Office (GPO) and Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS)style guides
  • Ensures consistency of style and information with each document
  • Verifies the proper placement of all footnote references
  • Checks all cross-references in volumes
  • Marks page proofs with GPO proofreading symbols as required.
