About The Position

This position is responsible for the security at the Family Medicine. The officer will conduct patrols ensuring all doors and windows of the facility have not been compromised. The officer will lock and unlock doors within the facility as necessary and in accordance with post orders. The officer will check the identification of all suspicious persons. The officer will assist employees and guests with escorts, disabled vehicles, all hazards, power outages, heating and cooling problems and report same to UNC Dispatch. The officer is responsible for arriving on time and in full uniform. The Officer should notify supervisors and/or the Security Manager of any problems or incidents that might occur on their shift. This position is one that is necessary to ensure University operations continue uninterrupted during periods of adverse weather and /or other emergency situations, including those that cause the University to close. As such you may be required to report to work according to your usual schedule or upon notification to report outside of your usual work schedule. Monitor crimes in progress and communicate information to responding officers via UNC Dispatch. Provide attention to detail. Complete daily reports concerning task and assignments completed during duty hours. Work individually and independently in a generally unsupervised position. Performs protective, security, enforcement, and public contact work in a security assignment at the assigned site location. Work involves participating in the locking and unlocking of property and patrolling the interior and exterior of facilities via foot, protection of all artworks on site. Must resolve daily work problems and uniform/equipment problems, monitor radio traffic and file daily activity reports. Work includes guarding property against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards; monitoring assigned areas for possible violation of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognizing and reporting unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations; providing information and assistance to the public; operating and maintaining security equipment and providing escorts to patron’s vehicles as requested. Work requires knowledge of standard safety, surveillance, security practices and equipment; knowledge of standard methods of reporting and handling emergencies such as disturbances and fires, medical and security threats; and knowledge of security/enforcement policies, rules, and regulations. Works with TPS Parking Enforcement requesting parking citations and towing. Maintains confidentiality and discretion in the course of conducting business; works individually and/or with others; and adapts to change and circumstances.
