About The Position

We are seeking a Protein Purification Scientist to support pilot‑scale downstream operations within a dynamic R&D environment. This team serves as the bridge between small‑scale process development and full‑scale manufacturing, providing critical support across the biologics development lifecycle. In this role, you will independently execute routine and complex downstream purification processes at pilot scale (50–1000 L), including chromatography, filtration, harvest clarification, and buffer preparation. You will contribute to experiment planning, generate high‑quality documentation, perform data analysis, and support technology transfer activities. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with protein purification unit operations and familiarity with pilot‑scale systems, particularly AKTA chromatography systems and Unicorn software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Engineering, or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, OR a Master’s degree with relevant experience preferred
  • Hands‑on experience with downstream purification operations (chromatography, UF/DF, TFF, filtration) required
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and data interpretation skills
  • Ability to collaborate across technical teams and communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and maintain high‑quality documentation
  • Ability to wear required PPE and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for prolonged periods, and accessing equipment platforms
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within an R&D pilot plant environment performing non‑GMP runs at 50–1000 L scale preferred
  • Experience with AKTA systems and Unicorn software strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with upstream operations (vial thaw, cell expansion, large‑scale bioreactors) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Execute non‑GMP downstream purification operations at the 50–1000 L scale to support material generation, process development, and demonstration runs
  • Perform chromatography, TFF/UF‑DF, depth and sterile filtration, buffer preparation, and harvest clarification
  • Partner with cross‑functional process development and manufacturing sciences groups to troubleshoot purification challenges and support scale‑up studies
  • Track critical process components such as long‑lead items, sample planning, materials, and vendor interactions
  • Independently record, analyze, and interpret process data using tools such as Spotfire or similar software
  • Present experimental results, trends, and technical issues to internal teams and propose scientifically sound solutions
  • Contribute to the development and revision of pilot‑scale procedures, SOPs, batch records, and technical documentation
  • Support technology transfer activities for developed processes
  • Evaluate and integrate new pilot‑scale technologies to enhance purification workflows
  • Support digital and operational innovation projects to improve efficiency, data analytics, and platform versatility
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across the pilot operations function

Benefits

  • Excellent full-time benefits, including comprehensive medical coverage, dental, and vision options
  • Life and disability insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Yearly goal-based bonus & eligibility for merit-based increases
