EO/AA This position provides a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients and assists in the provision of basic patient care needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Program Supervisor. Requirements

  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development.
  • Ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with maintaining a safe and hazard free environment by conducting patient room searches, reporting unsafe conditions, and applying appropriate emotional and physical support.
  • Observes and documents the patient's behavior.
  • Assists in basic nursing care by taking vital signs, observing food and liquid intake and output, and collecting specimens for lab tests.
  • Assists patients with daily activities.
  • Assists with the admission of new patients and orients them and their families to the facility.
  • Escorts patients to off-unit appointments and activities.
  • Reports information using nursing chain of command.
