About The Position

The Psychiatric Crisis Clinician plays a critical role in providing direct clinical consultation to patients and families in the Emergency Center and inpatient hospital units. This position is responsible for conducting psychosocial assessments, coordinating psychiatric placements, and managing crisis intervention cases. The clinician will work closely with psychiatrists, hospital staff, and external agencies to ensure seamless patient care, while supporting the mission of Holy Cross Health and CHE Trinity Health.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Must have highest clinical licensure in Maryland: LCSW-C or LCPC.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in a healthcare mental health setting, preferably in a hospital environment.
  • Experience in case management, including hospital transfers, discharge planning, and pre-authorizations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric assessment principles, social health programs, and laws governing mental health eligibility.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress or hostile situations.
  • Experience in obtaining managed care pre-authorizations and coordinating psychiatric care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for patients in psychiatric crisis and recommend appropriate behavioral health treatment.
  • Facilitate psychiatric placements for patients in the Emergency Center and inpatient units, ensuring timely transfer to appropriate facilities.
  • Provide psychiatric case management, including securing psychiatric beds and obtaining pre-authorizations from managed care companies.
  • Collaborate with on-call psychiatrists, emergency center staff, and outside agencies to coordinate patient care.
  • Navigate Maryland’s voluntary and involuntary psychiatric admission process, ensuring compliance with state laws and hospital protocols.
  • Interface effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers, nurses, and physicians, to develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Maintain therapeutic boundaries and demonstrate professionalism in high-stress environments.
