About The Position

Overview Job Summary : Demonstrates through behavior Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission, vision and values. The Occupational Therapy Services Coordinator delivers Occupational Therapy interventions as determined by the Occupational Therapist’s plan of care. The Occupational Therapy Services Coordinator serves as an integral member of the hospital team and strives to create a positive environment that fosters continued development of the child while clinically addressing the patient’s psychiatric needs. The Occupational Therapy Services Coordinator assists the physician and treatment team in identifying pediatric patients who may benefit from Occupational Therapy Interventions in order to meet discharge goals. Services to be delivered both individually and via group interactions. Additionally, the Occupational Therapy Services Coordinator assists in the facilitation and development of direct-care staff training regarding providing evidence based, trauma informed and developmentally appropriate care for pediatric patients experience an acute psychiatric crisis.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent social and emotional development.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric illness and the special needs of the pediatric population.
  • Training in Occupational Therapy practices .
  • Associate of Applied Science degree and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant certification required
  • Minimum one year experience working with individuals aged four and above in a mental health setting or an equivalent level of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out Occupational Therapy treatment plans for pediatric inpatients as directed by the Occupational Therapist based on current principles and standards of practice, which may include assisting the Occupational Therapist in the performance of selected assessment procedures.
  • Coordinates and delivers Occupational Therapy focused group activities with pediatric inpatients.
  • Implements interventions for improving range of motion, strength, activity tolerance, sensation, postural control and balance based on neuromotor status.
  • Evaluates sensorimotor, cognitive and adaptive skills and facilitates progress toward developmental milestones.
  • Provides de-escalation and diversional activities to patients experiencing acute psychiatric and behavioral disturbances utilizing principles of Occupational Therapy.
  • Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Clinical Services Manager, provides clinical education to pediatric assigned direct care staff in regard to such topics as sensory needs of patient’s, evidence based emotional regulation and Collaborative and Proactive Solutions.
  • Functions as a multidisciplinary team member, collaborating with the other team members regarding interventions, assessing patient needs and communicating with pediatric patient’s families as needed.
  • Documents Occupational Therapy services delivered and observations in an accurate and concise manner and in accordance with hospital guidelines.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures and demonstrates practices that ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, coworkers, and staff.
  • CPR certification.
  • MOAB/CPI certification.
