About The Position

Psychiatrist – Outpatient, Lifespan Cornerstone Family Healthcare – Behavioral Health Department Location: Orange County, New York (In-person) Cornerstone Family Healthcare, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), is seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist to join our integrated Behavioral Health team serving patients across the lifespan in an outpatient setting. The psychiatrist will work collaboratively with other psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, behavioral health therapists, and medical providers to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in both in-person and virtual modalities. Position Summary The Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults in an outpatient clinic setting. The role includes in-person and telehealth visits, close collaboration with Behavioral Health colleagues, and consultation with primary care and other medical providers to support integrated care for patients with mental health needs.

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in Psychiatry.
  • Current, unrestricted New York State license (or eligibility) to practice medicine.
  • Board eligible or Board certified in Psychiatry, with expectation of achieving Board certification within the required timeframe if not already certified.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and accessible, patient-centered care.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior outpatient psychiatric experience preferred; experience in a community health center, FQHC, or integrated care setting is a plus.
  • Experience treating patients across the lifespan (child, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric) strongly preferred; willingness to work with multiple age groups required.
  • Familiarity with telehealth/telepsychiatry and electronic health records.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including diagnostic assessment, risk assessment, and formulation for patients across the lifespan.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans with measurable goals, in collaboration with patients and, when appropriate, families/guardians and the care team.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders using evidence-based practices, including prescribing and managing psychotropic medications and providing psychotherapy and other therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
  • Provide ongoing medication management and follow-up visits, monitoring treatment response, side effects, and safety, and adjusting treatment plans as needed.
  • Conduct thorough suicide, self-harm, violence, and abuse/neglect risk assessments; develop and document safety plans; and coordinate higher levels of care (e.g., emergency department, inpatient, crisis services) when indicated.
  • Provide psychiatric services via in-person and approved telehealth platforms, ensuring adherence to all privacy, security, and documentation standards, and compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Participate actively in an interdisciplinary Behavioral Health team, collaborating with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, case managers, and support staff around diagnosis, treatment planning, and care coordination.
  • Participate in weekly high-risk case review meetings for the assigned office, presenting and discussing complex or high-risk cases and implementing agreed-upon treatment and safety recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with primary care and other medical providers, offering consultation on diagnosis, psychotropic prescribing, side-effect management, and when to refer to specialty psychiatric care.
  • Support integrated care initiatives, including warm handoffs, shared care plans, use of standardized screening tools (e.g., depression and anxiety measures, suicide risk assessments), and coordination between behavioral health and medical services.
  • Coordinate care with external providers and systems (e.g., inpatient units, schools, community agencies) with appropriate consents and ensure timely follow-up after hospitalizations or crisis episodes.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation in the electronic health record, consistent with organizational, payer, and regulatory requirements, including coding and billing documentation.
  • Meet established productivity, access, and quality expectations while maintaining a high standard of patient care and professional ethics.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives related to Behavioral Health and integrated care.
  • Provide clinical consultation to psychiatric nurse practitioners and behavioral health therapists regarding complex diagnostic and medication management questions; may supervise learners if applicable.
  • Adhere to all Cornerstone Family Healthcare policies and procedures and maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient, staff, and organizational information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
