You will work closely with a tenured team of peer underwriters while actively underwriting your own portfolio of accounts – determining strategy, setting terms, managing exposures, and making sound decisions within your authority. Equally important, you’ll be a trusted partner to brokers and clients: responsive, knowledgeable, and focused on long-term relationships that drive retention and new business. Requirements

  • 3+ years of underwriting experience in public entity & non-profit self-insured retention programs
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills; advanced Excel proficiency
  • Proficient in standard policy language review
  • Excellent communicator – written, verbal, and in presentations
  • Self-directed with sound judgment and sharp organizational skills
  • Experience with broker and client relationship building and management
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of US E&S/Admitted Insurance classes including general commercial and public non-profit risk.
  • General understanding of the US legal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and grow a portfolio of risks within the public entity & non-profit space, including direct, excess and reinsurance accounts.
  • Perform loss and exposure analysis to ensure risks are within core appetite and underwriting guidelines.
  • Manage the full underwriting cycle including submission triage, pricing, setting coverage terms, contract issuance and account servicing.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of market dynamics and trends.
  • Collaborate with team to deliver industry-leading solutions and service to our clients and brokers.
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and new production sources and clients.
  • Develop and maintain technical expertise of emerging exposures, claims trends, litigation practices and legislative reforms relevant to public entity & non-profit classes.
