About The Position

As the Public Infomation Coordinator-Videographer/Editor for the Public Infomation Office, under the Office of the Director; shoots and edits television/video/internet (recorded and streamed live) production programs and public service announcements: creates graphics and shoots broadcast and non-broadcast productions, public service, public relations, training, and orientation programming for the Illinois State Police; edits productions and potentially graphic video, such as shootings; plans, directs, and coordinates the development of a production nature primarily in planning and creation of video and graphics; utilizes electronic field production equipment in the performance of duties; lifts, loads, unloads, sets up, and tears down equipment used to produce informational material weighing up to 50 lbs. and assists with lifting materials up to 75 lbs; operates video and audio equipment such as computerized editing, television post-production editing, and digital video effects equipment consisting of linear and non-linear units, studio and portable lighting equipment, and computerized graphics programs; creates, shoots, records, and produces public service announcements for the Illinois State Police; writes video scripts; facilitates the duplication and distribution of project; develops and maintains effective working relationships with Illinois State Police personnel and media. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with courses in journalism, English, and public speaking.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in informational writing, research, or dissemination of information.
  • Requires completion of ISP background check and drug screening.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel extensively statewide in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires the ability to lift, load, unload, set up, and tear down equipment used to produce informational material weighing up to 50 lbs. and assists with lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties
  • Requires the ability to use agency technology/equipment (i.e., mobile phone, laptop, video production equipment, editing software, etc.) properly in accordance with information security awareness policies and confidentiality guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers two (2) years’ professional experience working with current formats of media recording and basic non-linear editing experience as part of electronic news gathering.
  • Prefers two (2) years’ professional experience in studio video production including, but not limited to planning, developing, shooting, and/ or directing a video production.
  • Prefers two (2) years’ professional experience recording (in studio and/or on location) and editing training videos.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience editing video, including redacting portions of audio and/or video.

Responsibilities

  • Under administrative direction, serves as videographer and editor, producing and shooting for video productions.
  • Performs statewide field productions and editing of news events as designated by Illinois State Police Directors Office.
  • Plans, directs, shoots, and monitors the video production and duplication sections.
  • Serves as liaison between the Illinois State Police and the news media regarding distribution of videos.
  • Assists the Chief Public Information Officer and Social Media Coordinator as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
