The Greensboro Science Center is accepting applications for part-time Public Program Performers. The GSC has a long and successful history of producing and presenting shows for our guests that are as entertaining as they are informative. These interactive performances blend the excitement and audience engagement of live theater with the experience of wonder that comes from learning about the natural world. These shows are a light-hearted and fast-paced way of making science both accessible and fun through the art of storytelling. This is an actor's position. We seek candidates who possess the necessary talents and skills needed to learn and perform scripts as well as to seize the opportunities for improvisation presented by interaction with an audience. The ability to engage an audience of children and families by inspiring their imaginations is the position’s greatest requirement. Having a background in or knowledge of science, though helpful, is not necessary; having a fascination with and openness to learning about the natural world most certainly is. Because these theatrical science shows blend live performance with a number of multi-media elements, a comfort with and competence in using new technology is important. Each workday, the performer will present a combination of 30-minute scripted science shows and shorter 10-20 minute improvisational public interactions, each designed to entertain, inspire and educate our guests visiting the science center. The performer’s work-week will involve one day of the weekend and two or three days during the week. Each finalist for the position will need to perform an audition piece as part of the process. To apply for the position, upload an updated resume and a one-page cover letter expressing your interest in and qualifications for this position. No phone calls please.
