About The Position

Your Role Gensler New York is seeking a creative, motivated and collaborative individual to join our office as the New York Public Relations Specialist. Working in one of the firm’s largest and most dynamic offices, you will be an integral part of the New York PR & Communications team, helping communicate our firm’s unique approach and how it differentiates us from our competition. A proven storyteller, the ideal candidate has a passion for design and views communications as a people-centered activity. Reporting directly to the NE/NY PR Director, you will simultaneously manage multiple deliverables with strategic thinking - underscored by a solid understanding of the local design and real estate markets, and of the practice area overall. You will be responsible for media outreach and identifying engaging stories to a wide range of reporters; speaking engagements; thought leadership; and special projects. You will also collaborate closely with the NE Communications & Content Manager on awards programs and social media. Gensler is organized along four practice areas – Workplace, Hospitality, Cities, and Healthcare – and the NY PR Specialist will be responsible for executing practice area-specific external communications in coordination with other PR Specialists in the New York office and across the firm. The PR Specialist will report to the NE/NY PR Director while also working with the NE Communications & Content Manager, office leaders, and practice area leaders to identify stories, secure opportunities, and develop proactive campaigns across various platforms in support of strategic objectives. This role will also collaborate closely with the regional and global PR network, and New York marketing colleagues.

  • Understanding of public relations as a service to the region
  • Ongoing support of reporting materials on behalf of the regional PR team
  • At least 4-8 years of public relations experience
  • Microsoft Office, InDesign, Cision

Nice To Haves

  • Background in architecture, design and journalism is very desirable
  • Deep media relationships and experience in specific practice areas is also preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work with the NE/NY PR Director to identify story angles and appropriate journalists/publications to engage for opportunities specific to practice area focus.
  • Create and update targeted PR Plans for projects and practice areas
  • Have a pulse on current and upcoming projects and initiatives throughout the office that best support our practice area POVs, PR strategies, and client relationships
  • Work with project design teams and clients to write press materials (design backgrounders, press releases, pitches, fact sheets, messaging)
  • Maintain media lists
  • Maintain editorial calendars
  • Work with NY office leadership on development of blog posts and bylines
  • Plan and execute office events, media events or trade events
  • Assist with photo shoots
  • Vet inbound media requests
  • Track and measure PR hits; organize press clippings
  • Assist NE/NY PR Director with special projects, as needed
  • Maintain NY Speaking Engagement calendar and manage inbound speaking opportunities, pitches and call-for-speaker deadlines
  • Work with Gensler NY spokespeople to develop presentation content and talking points, speaker preparation and briefing materials
  • Support social media content development for NY Instagram channel and Firmwide channels, in coordination with global PR and social leaders
  • Collaborate with the NE Communications & Content Manager to prepare and submit awards content for projects and individuals within specific practice area of focus
  • Coordination of client awards permissions and approvals, where relevant
  • Ability to proactively support multiple submission deadlines at once
