About The Position

Under general supervision and administrative direction, enforces traffic rules and regulations and local ordinances applicable to the properties of the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) at Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RYN) pertaining to the general functions of airport operations and management; provide excellent customer service. The following functions and all other functions not included in this job description are to be performed in the best interests and for the greater good of TAA. Support and advocate for TAA’s Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles and act as a champion and role-model of TAA’s Cultural Fundamentals.

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent; no felony conviction in any state or federal jurisdiction.
Knowledge of: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) FAR Part 139, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Part 1542, Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) standards, National Incident Management Systems (NIMS)/Incident Command Structure (ICS), and all other pertinent local, state, and federal codes, regulations and standards is helpful.
Changes in federal, state and local laws likely to affect TAA in the areas of airport operations and safety.
The organization wide mission and goals, and how these relate to division, department, team, and individual projects and initiatives.
TAA airport geography and TAA departments.
Skill in: Organization, oral and written communications, proofreading, critical thinking and multi-tasking.
Taking initiative and being a self-starter.
Learn current 10 codes and phonetic alphabet to provide appropriate communication.
Use a computer utilizing Spillman and Microsoft office software, and office machines.
Review PSO reports, citations, and other related paperwork.
Perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, with mature judgment, to function in competing, high stress, fast moving work surroundings, with deadlines and multiple projects.
Initiate and organize responsibilities without observant supervision, and take independent action relative to work problems requiring immediate solutions, including notification to your supervisor if you are unable to resolve work problems.
Wear appropriate respirators when applicable and pass an annual respirator fit test.
Lift/move/carry/drag/pull/heavy objects; or push hard-to-move objects by hand.
Read, write, and speak the English language in an articulate, fluent manner.
Communicate via telephone, radio, and cellular telephone, with sufficient clarity to be understood by others and to hear radio and telephone transmissions in a high noise environment.
Hear and understand through both ears, sounds coming through a radio, a standard telephone receiver, or outside sources.
Distinguish colors by a practical test in all lighting conditions of standard airport lighting system colors and Air Traffic Control Tower light-gun signals.
Work assigned shifts, including days/evenings/weekends/holidays, subject to overtime and on-call, as required.
Establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with regulatory agencies, tenants, TAA employees, outside agencies, and the general public.
Understand that dissemination of information outside of job requirements is on a “need-to-know” basis.
Maintain discreet and professional sense of confidentiality due to sensitive nature of job functions.
Actively listen to others to understand their needs and the situation.
Engage in self-improvement activities and training.
A valid Arizona driver’s license.
Meet and maintain the ability to drive airport vehicles and obtain authorization to access the Non-Movement Area on the Air Operations Area (AOA).
Must obtain and maintain access to the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).
Must successfully complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700 and 800, course requirements and certification within the first year of employment.
As an employee, you are deemed to be essential personnel as part of TAA’s emergency response, and must respond to airport incidents, as requested/required.

Responsibilities

Perform traffic control and enforce traffic regulations as required by TAA rule and regulations and federal regulations; direct, control, and regulate traffic, including issuing citations.
Proficiently drive airport vehicles, including passenger cars, and vans to perform a variety of enforcement and/or customer service initiatives.
Summon police, fire and emergency medical personnel.
Prepare reports of investigative findings by written form or dictation, present testimony and evidence in civil court proceedings.
Perform public assistance activities to include first aid to sick and injured persons; assist motorists, direct traffic, assist and refer persons in need;
Communicate effectively, in person and/or by radio or telephone.
Maintain and operate proficiently, a variety of tools, vehicles, computers, and any other assigned equipment.
Perform tasks mandated by Federal government pertaining to civil aviation security regulations (TSA Part 1542) and safety regulations (FAR Part 139).
Liaison with the Ground Transportation Coordinator on all matters related to ground transportation.
Attend meetings as directed by supervisor.
Be responsive to airport emergencies and situations that may involve loss of human life or property; support public safety and operational response to emergencies; utilize Incident Management System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols and procedures; coordinate and/or participate in after-action emergency de-briefing with appropriate departments and stakeholders.
