About The Position

We are looking for a Purchasing Supervisor for our Cookeville, TN location. The Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization-wide purchasing and shipping & receiving functions. This role oversees a team of buyers as well as the Shipping & Receiving Clerk, maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates pricing and terms, supports import/export activity, and drives procurement standardization across sites. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 3+ years of procurement or purchasing experience with thorough knowledge of core purchasing practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising purchasing staff and/or shipping & receiving personnel (preferred).
  • Knowledge of import/export documentation, compliance, and tariff implications (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily purchasing activities and a small team of buyers ensuring accurate and timely PO creation, tracking, and documentation.
  • Develop and enforce standardized procurement processes including RFQs, supplier onboarding, and purchase order terms across two locations.
  • Oversee PO workflow including line‑item accuracy, project/phase coding, and vendor communication.
  • Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies, ERP procedures, and audit requirements.
  • Maintain and strengthen supplier relationships to ensure reliability, quality, and value.
  • Negotiate blanket, volume-based pricing, payment terms, and purchased component warranties.
  • Monitor supplier performance using criteria such as cost, on time delivery, quality, innovation, and business alignment.
  • Resolve supplier escalations and material availability challenges proactively.
  • Assess and communicate the impact of tariffs, duties, and international trade changes on material cost, lead time, and sourcing decisions.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure timely movement of international shipments.
  • Implement sourcing strategies that improve purchasing consistency, leverage spend, and support dual‑site purchasing alignment.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, project management, accounting, and S&R teams to support production schedules and cost savings initiatives.
  • Utilize ERP and purchasing tools to manage demand planning, analyze spend, and identify efficiency and savings opportunities.
  • Support creation and maintenance of KPI dashboards for procurement activity (e.g., cost savings, on-time-delivery performance, etc.).
  • Maintain complete and accurate procurement records for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Participate in staffing decisions, training, performance evaluation, scheduling, and process development for the purchasing team.
  • Analyze and develop buyer capability and maintain workload balance across the purchasing function.
  • Supervise and support the Shipping & Receiving Clerk, ensuring accurate receiving, shipment processing, and material flow.
  • Help to fill in any gaps in the Purchasing or S&R departments, as needed.
