About The Position

The Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all products, incoming and outgoing, meet quality standards by performing a variety of microbiological and chemical testing in a laboratory environment. This position ensures that cleanliness standards are maintained and that laboratory safety standards are adhered to. The position is responsible for conducting audits of raw materials and finished product to assure/preserve product integrity. The Quality Assurance Coordinator consults with Production to resolve quality, production, and efficiency problems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of laboratory experience required.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow documents and procedures. (GLP, SOP, MSDS, GMP, test procedures, and HACCP).
  • Demonstrate leadership as part of a cross-functional plant management team.
  • Ability to positively influence other team members.
  • Able to exchange basic informational data (fill out forms/checklists, copy data from one record to another, etc.); interview to gather information; advise others on alternatives/options; coach and counsel others; read, understand and explain technical data.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform startup checks on production lines.
  • Perform various testing including in-line and day-after flavor testing, in-line acidity testing, and in-line pH testing.
  • Ensure GMP policy adhered to by all employees in production facility.
  • Work closely with production employees to answer questions.
  • Receive, sort, composite and prepare samples for laboratory testing.
  • Perform various test procedures, which include analysis of components and physical properties of products, interpretation of test results, development of non-standard tests, preparation of test solutions, compounds and reagents for use in conducting tests.
  • Calculate and review specifications on testing data; enter data into computer systems.
  • Perform weekly environmental and equipment swabbing at various plant locations.
  • Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and validate new procedures.
  • Fill-in in all areas of laboratory as needed.
  • Ensure laboratory area and equipment is clean and sanitized per standards.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on laboratory equipment and repair equipment as needed.
  • Maintain and document monthly quality control checks.
  • Review internal audits with Quality Manager/Supervisor.
  • Follow-up on laboratory corrective actions and ensure corrective action has taken place.
  • Prepare laboratory blind samples on a quarterly basis and process data and review results with Quality Manager/Supervisor.
  • Follow-up on sample breakdowns and report results to Quality Manager/Supervisor.
  • Train new Quality Technicians as needed and update training documents.
  • Responsible for food safety and quality.
  • Evaluate blend sheets to ensure proper amounts used for production lines and verify any changes made to paperwork.
  • Verify correct components and documentation used for production lines.
  • Check finished batches to ensure blends are appropriate.
  • Inspect orders prior to shipment.
  • Act as back-up for the Quality Manager related to food safety and quality as needed.
  • Perform chemical concentration checks.
  • Maintain Certified Industry Supervisor status and perform calibration checks on intake thermometers, heat blocks and pipettors per schedule.
  • Calibrate plant thermometers per schedule.
  • Contact with all employees in Quality and Technical Services and production employees to obtain and provide information.
  • Works closely with Plant Manager, Shift Supervisors and Line Leads from the Plant as well as Research & Development.
  • Conduct special testing as requested.
  • Work safely with chemical and microbiological hazards and antibiotics.
  • Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Stop any observed unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures.
  • Correct or report any observed safety hazards.
  • Support safety policies and programs.
