The Quality Assurance Specialist II is a key contributor to the Ingredients team, supporting both existing and emerging product portfolios with a strong focus on the sports and lifestyle nutrition market. The Quality Assurance Specialist II partners closely with cross‑functional teams, including Quality, Regulatory, Product Management, and Warehouse Operations, to enable the efficient introduction, management, and commercialization of innovative ingredient solutions. They will also support QA functions in the facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 5 years of industry experience
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in food science, biology, or chemistry, or a related field, with 2 years of experience preferred
  • Knowledge of FSMA, the food industry, dietary supplements, GFSI, and HACCP
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Work environment is normally in an office setting.
  • Must be able to make frequent rounds in a warehouse environment
  • Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended hours
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Other physical requirements include moderate standing and occasional squatting, bending, and twisting
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to wear any required PPE such as scrubs, hair net, lab coat, and facemask
  • Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas
  • Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require
  • All Prinova employees are required to ensure compliance standards with food safety, food defense, and food quality (FDA, ILDPH, FSMA, and BRC). It is the responsibility of each employee to comply with occupational safety and health standards issued under OSHA and to follow all rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Company to ensure that their actions do not impact the health and safety of themselves or others.

Responsibilities

  • Process work orders and manage ingredient-related documentation.
  • Sample materials and coordinate third-party testing for quality validation.
  • Conduct sensory analysis to evaluate ingredient performance.
  • Manage quality processes with third-party vendors and contract manufacturers.
  • Review product labels for accuracy and compliance.
  • Create and maintain regulatory and quality documentation for assigned ingredients.
  • Develop specifications and Certificates of Analysis (COAs) using LIMS.
  • Manage material release and hold processes.
  • Investigate and resolve out-of-specification issues.
  • Support the Product Manager with documentation for new and existing materials.
  • Complete site-specific food safety questionnaires
  • Complete risk assessments on ingredients
  • Maintain and apply for certifications related to specified ingredients.
  • Assist in developing workflows and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor Quality programs.
  • Update existing SOP’s if required.
  • Set up new product codes in relevant systems.
  • Collaborate and support Food Safety Audits of our facility and systems.
  • Complete internal audits as required.
  • Review product documentation to ensure it adheres to specific standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
