About The Position

J&J Truck Equipment is seeking a Quality Control (QC) Foreman who will be responsible for leading and executing all quality inspection activities at the truck equipment facilities, including our Somerset, PA, and Cumberland, MD locations. This role ensures that fabricated truck bodies, installed components, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and completed chassis meet company standards, customer specifications, and safety regulations before delivery. The QC Foreman supervises inspection processes, coaches production employees on quality expectations, identifies root cause defects, and partners with Production, Engineering, and the CQI team to prevent rework and improve build consistency. Requirements

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent to two-year college or technical school; and 5 years' experience in truck equipment, heavy truck, fabrication, or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Prior quality control or inspection experience.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, build sheets, and installation instructions.
  • Experience in inspecting welds and fabricated assemblies.
  • Leadership or lead-technician experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and leads all Quality Control Inspectors at our Truck Equipment locations.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • When necessary, performs or coordinates destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
  • Reviews documentation to secure specifications of the product to perform quality inspections.
  • Inspects product to determine compliance with order specifications, the company's quality control system, and compliance with customer requirements.
  • Stamps or otherwise marks approval or rejection on the product and writes a report of examinations.
  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in the production process, and tests products for a variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within the limits of equipment capability.
  • Observes, complies with, and enforces all the provisions of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  • Observes, complies with, and enforces all safety rules, always including the use of PPE.
  • Actively support the company's lean manufacturing and CQI initiatives.
  • Identify waste in production processes (rework, material handling, over-processing, etc.)
  • Drive defect prevention rather than post-production inspection.
  • Participate in root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methods.
  • Track and report recurring quality issues and trends.
  • Partner with the CQI team to implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Assist with process audits and quality audits.
  • Supervise, schedule, and assign daily work for QC inspectors.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and maintain a visible presence on the shop floor.
  • Train new and existing employees on inspection procedures, workmanship standards, and company quality expectations.
  • Participate in employee evaluations and performance reviews.
  • Recommend additional training, cross-training, or skill development when needed.
