About The Position

Position Summary: The Quality Engineer supports and executes quality engineering activities for aerospace heat treat and forging operations , ensuring compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, AMS 2750, and customer requirements . This role is responsible for product and process conformity, special process oversight, nonconformance resolution, and audit readiness. Depending on experience level, the Quality Engineer may perform responsibilities with guidance ( QE I ) or independently ( QE II ). This position partners closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Operations to support defect prevention, process control, and continuous improvement within NADCAP-accredited special processes. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Quality System & Audit Compliance Support execution of the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with AS9100, NADCAP Heat Treat, AMS 2750, and customer requirements . Support internal, customer, and NADCAP audits , including preparation, objective evidence collection, corrective action support, and timely closure. Ensure quality procedures, work instructions, and records related to heat treat and forging operations are properly maintained. Support document control and record retention requirements. Heat Treat & Forging Quality Engineering Support and/or independently manage quality activities for heat treat and forging processes , based on experience level. Review and approve (as authorized) heat treat certifications, furnace charts, load documentation, and quench records . Ensure compliance with AMS 2750 requirements, including: Furnace classification and instrumentation Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS) System Accuracy Tests (SAT) Thermocouple selection, usage, and life management Support First Article Inspections (FAI per AS9102) for forged and heat-treated products. Perform process verification and manufacturing floor audits to ensure adherence to approved procedures. Nonconformance & Corrective Action Support and/or lead nonconformance investigations related to heat treat and forging discrepancies. Apply structured root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys ). Develop, implement, and verify effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions . Ensure proper containment, documentation, and disposition of nonconforming material. Metrics, Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement Collect, analyze, and trend quality and process data related to pyrometry, furnace performance, scrap, rework, and defect rates . Support SPC and data-driven decision making to identify process risks and improvement opportunities. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on defect reduction, process stability, and audit readiness. Training & Cross-Functional Support Provide technical guidance to inspectors, operators, and production personnel regarding heat treat, forging, and quality requirements . Support training and qualification activities related to NADCAP and AMS 2750 requirements. Partner with Engineering and Operations on process changes, validations, and risk assessments.
