About The Position

The Quality Control Inspector performs independent inspection of machined and brazed aluminum components and assemblies used in Aerospace and Defense applications, with a focus on completing FAI (First Article Inspection). This role requires proficiency in blueprint interpretation, GD&T application, and the use of precision measuring equipment. The inspector works with minimal supervision and serves as a technical resource to production teams. This position reports to the Director of Quality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or General Education Degree (GED).
  • 2-5 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
  • Practical understanding and application of GD&T.
  • Experience using a variety of precision inspection instruments.
  • Hands on experience performing First Article Inspections (FAI) and completing AS9102 documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Strives towards a culture of proactive safety.
  • Perform visual, mechanical, dimensional, and functional inspection of raw materials, components (CNC-machined and brazed), assemblies, and final products to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings using ASME Y14.5M dimensioning and tolerancing standards.
  • Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, comparators, dial indicators, fixtures, gauges, surface plate setups, and CMMs as applicable.
  • Operate CMM equipment for in-process and final inspections (training provided if needed).
  • Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements, including creation, verification, and documentation of all required forms and objective evidence.
  • Completes the FAIs required to support the business operation to ensure successful and timely completion.
  • Works with Quality Assurance representatives to complete other required reports (e.g., PPAP, PFMEA, etc.)
  • Identify workmanship or material defects and initiate Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCMR).
  • Assist Quality Engineers in investigating nonconformances and supporting CAPA activities.
  • Complete and maintain accurate inspection documentation and records.
  • Work from written instructions, procedures, statistical process controls, and engineering drawings.
  • Learn the basics of C/A Design manufacturing processes to be able to provide analysis support for quality specifications and quality problems by addressing inspection-related issues.
  • Ensure inspection equipment is properly calibrated and maintained prior to use.
  • Other duties as assigned.
