About The Position

Ultium Cells is currently seeking a motivated and accomplished battery manufacturing Quality Supervisor who will lead a group of quality laboratory areas within our manufacturing facility.  The Quality Supervisor is responsible for safely inspecting and qualifying battery cells manufactured on our assembly lines.  We manufacture the highest quality battery cells and the Quality Supervisor will execute and be accountable for all quality lab related activities in their assigned areas.  This position will be responsible for analyzing components to meet the established standards of quality including reliability, usability, and performance, while ensuring high yield in a highly automated manufacturing environment. The Quality Supervisor’s functions will also include verification of the product meeting quality standards in accordance with the requirements of the organization. The Quality Supervisor must be able to communicate effectively within all levels of the organization (multi-functional teams) to discuss and resolve quality issues in a timely manner. The Quality Supervisor will be responsible to understand upstream and downstream processes, to work with other peer leaders as One Ultium Team, and to ensure efficient operation of the business to support customer demand. Position requires 12-hr off shift work (nights) on a crew schedule and some on-call support or coverage as business dictates. The Quality Supervisor has responsibility for 7-18 hourly inspectors engaged in battery cell inspection activities. The position involves a considerable amount of initiative and proactive initiative. Strong people skills are required in this position, working in a joint venture and union environment, supporting the requirements of Ultium’s customers and parent companies, and in building a unique and inclusive Ultium culture.  Ensuring the Ultium team has strong collaborative relationships is critical. The Quality Supervisor will also be expected to possess technical skills at an inspector level, understand how to run testing equipment and to properly interact with the technical resource teams that support quality and production.  Technical proficiency, ability to learn quickly, and a drive for continued technical learning as well as self-directed problem-solving is also important in this role.

Requirements

  • +2 Years Industrial/Manufacturing Leadership - Supervision Experience, preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science      four-year college or university or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent         combination of education and experience, preferred
  • Strong understanding of quality processes and implementation methods
  • Experience and knowledge of SOP, Control Plan, CTQ, and SPC
  • Experience and knowledge of composition analysis, key parameter analysis, and GD&T
  • Troubleshoot any quality related issues
  • Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, statements, and projections
  • Knowledge of electricity, electrical products, raw materials, production processes, automated equipment, manufacturing cost reduction, and other techniques for maximizing the manufacturing efficiency and distribution of goods. (Especially, experience in manufacturing lithium-ion batteries is preferred.)

  • Required to work 12 hrs during off-shift (night) hours and flex hours to support the team
  • Required: Ability to stand and walk for 12‑hour shifts and wear required clean‑room PPE, including  PAPRs.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred: Strong core productivity and office skills, including email and calendar management; document creation and editing (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint); spreadsheet and basic charting; experience working in cloud‑based environments; and familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Teams,     Kronos, Workday, Minitab and enterprise systems (e.g., NERP). Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and    adapt to new systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manages floor operations for assigned quality labs.
  • Ensure compliance for plant safety and environmental regulations; understands promotes, educates, communicates and follows up on safety processes, deliverables and other initiatives
  • Maintains safety/quality culture through direct interaction with the team, audits/observation and incident investigation, with a proactive mindset.
  • Support Team Members and coordinates the activities of employees engaged in the quality inspection of   components.
  • Has a proactive problem-solving mindset, to drive continuous improvement.
  • Understands and supports SPQRCE (Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost and Environment) and KPI metrics
  • Responsible for the floor level operations training plan for the quality inspection teams
  • Evaluate operators’ level periodically with validation techniques to improve the inspection level
  • Collaborate with other leaders to coordinate activities within or between departments (i.e. Safety, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Engineering, HR, Supply Chain, IT, other quality supervisors, etc.)
  • Plan and establish work schedules and assignments to meet quality goals
  • Maintain lab plus support and train team to inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions
  • Support employee training through demonstrating method, equipment operations, safety procedures and quality expectations
  • Support and facilitate team-based problem solving
  • Observe key performance indicators of work area; monitor gauges, dials, and equipment performance  indicators to ensure that operators conform to quality processing standards
  • Confer with leadership and team to resolve work force concerns and to employee engagement
  • Has knowledge of quality control procedures, manufacturing processes, technical support systems, and management systems as they relate to quality operations
  • Interpret specifications, part and assembly drawings, job orders, and company policies and procedures  for workers
  • Audit and support organization quality standard compliance periodically
  • Manage periodic audit data and escalate if required
  • Communicate and teach Quality processes to others in the organization
  • Verify corrective actions from engineers and leaders have been implemented
  • Conduct inspection and cause analysis regarding raw material and non-conforming product quality issues
