About The Position

The Quality Technician I role is a hands‑on position that requires strong critical‑thinking skills and sound analytical judgment in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. The technician performs a broad range of inspection and evaluation activities on cast and machined components, as well as daily foundry sand assessments. Responsibilities also include supporting Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) and Defective Material Report (DMR) processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution. This position is accountable for verifying both the visual and dimensional conformance of products to confirm they meet all customer specifications and quality requirements. Schedule: 6am-2pm Monday - Friday. Pay rate for the position starts at $20.80/hr, varying depending on prior experience.

Requirements

  • Language Skills – Ability to communicate effectively and write concise reports for all levels of employees.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, and proportions and apply these concepts to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability – Must possess conflict resolution skills and strong analytical skills.
  • HS Diploma/GED or higher
  • 1-3 years related experience or Associates degree in engineering or quality technology or related field, preferred.
  • Exposure to ISO 9001 preferred
  • Work environment includes regular exposure to noise levels at or above 85 decibels, moving mechanical parts, dust particles, paint or oil products, and vibration.
  • Exposure molten iron & silica while on the production floor.
  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required to be worn during shift.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and moving up to 50 pounds (frequently) and/or up to 70 pounds (occasionally), bending, kneeling, squatting, arm-hand steadiness, finger dexterity, manual dexterity, control precision, near vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Collect samples of sand from various molding centers for evaluation.
  • Must be willing and able to wear respirator PPE.
  • Perform battery of prescribed tests on foundry sand to allow higher level analysis to be performed.
  • Document and communicate results collected during evaluation of sand testing and other processes.
  • Perform and document material characteristics, i.e. tensile and hardness tests, on test bars provided.
  • Ensure supplies are stocked for items/area assigned.
  • Perform visual and/or dimensional inspection of parts utilizing prints, specifications, work instructions etc. to determine compliance with quality specifications.
  • Inspect commercial casting, vendor supplied and in-house machined or assembled product to determine compliance with quality specifications.
  • Periodic checking of gauging equipment as assigned.
  • Processing of Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) as assigned.
  • Identify and label discrepant material via the Defective Material Report (DMR) and assist with processing as assigned.
  • Verify work instructions / processes are being followed.
  • Assist in completing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Create and issue customer required certifications, inspection reports, and deviations as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment.
  • Understand and follow company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
