About The Position

The Department Quantitative Research and Investing (QRI) is an investments and research division within Asset Management at Fidelity. We are responsible for the management and development of quantitative and hybrid quant/fundamental investment strategies and solutions while providing high quality quantitative, data-driven support to Fidelity’s investment professionals, ensuring they have access to the most relevant data and advanced quantitative analysis. The Team The Systematic Equity Strategies (SES) group — a part of Fidelity's QRI Division is responsible for the research, design, development, and implementation of systematic active and tax-managed equity strategies. Assets under management is approximately $30B and spans multiple equity products and customized separately managed accounts serving both intermediary and institutional investors. Since our inception in 2001, we have used a combination of theory, data and technology to better understand financial markets and develop innovative investment solutions for our clients. Systematic Equity Strategies Internship As an intern with the Systematic Equity Strategies (SES) team, you will work on a 10-week research project that may directly influence how SES invests. Throughout the internship, you’ll collaborate closely with a highly engaged and intellectually rigorous research team. You’ll receive guidance and feedback, participate in research meetings, and contribute your own ideas to ongoing discussions.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD Program. It is preferred that PhD candidates have completed at least three years of their program prior to joining.
  • Field(s) of study must be in a technical area (STEM) and/or Finance/Economics with a strong programming background.
  • Demonstrated experience/interest/skill in quantitative research and data science analysis.
  • Academic or intellectual interest in financial markets.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills, as well as the ability to clearly articulate findings.
  • Candidates must be available for the full duration of the program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop hypotheses and theoretical models to explain investor behavior and market dynamics
  • Collect and analyze data needed to test these models
  • Test theory against data, refining hypotheses and models in the process
  • Distill the evidence and theory into new insights about how financial markets work
