Quantum Algorithms Internship

TechnergeticsRome, NY
16h$20 - $45Hybrid

About The Position

This internship is contingent upon a contract award that is expected Spring 2026. Once awarded the internship is scheduled to last three months (Spring-Summer 2026). Position Details Salary Range: $20-$45 per hour. The rate of pay depends on the amount of schooling the successful candidate has completed. This internship may be fully remote for candidates outside the Utica-Rome, NY area. Candidates located within a commutable distance to Rome, NY may occasionally be asked to report on-site to the Innovare Advancement Center at the Rome Griffiss Institute campus. Due to the access required for this position and contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible to apply. The Quantum Algorithms Intern will work with a team of researchers and scientists exploring the use of quantum algorithms for DoW applications, including logistics problems. This research involves developing, applying, and characterizing quantum algorithms or hybrid classical-quantum solutions for advanced applications such as finance, logistics, signal intelligence, and networking/communication. The successful candidate will implement and evaluate quantum algorithms including various quantum optimization methods on quantum simulators and quantum computers. They will also advance quantum algorithms through the development of novel solutions on NISQ-era quantum computers and hybrid quantum-classical systems.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a BS/BA, MS, or PhD in applied physics, computer science, mathematics, or closely related field with preference for specialization in Quantum Information Science.
  • Experience in classical optimization methods, machine learning, quantum optimization, computational physics or related field.
  • Experience working with analogue and digital quantum computers
  • Experience using quantum simulation tools such as PyTorch Quantum, Qiskit, Pennylane, Cirq
  • Has knowledge of or taken courses in information science, quantum computing, and computational numerical methods
  • Has knowledge of or taken courses with topics including quantum logic gates
  • Has knowledge of or taken courses in physical qubit technologies used to implement quantum algorithms.
  • Has knowledge of the problem-spaces in which quantum algorithms can be applied (e.g. QUBO for optimization)
  • The successful candidate will be subject to a background check which must return a favorable result for employment.
  • Due to the access required for this position and contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.
