At Applied Materials, our innovations make possible the technology shaping the future. Applied Materials’ CTO group is searching for a quantum technology engineer intern to join our team! At Applied’s CTO group, we focus on solid-state solutions for quantum technology, i.e. superconducting qubits and optical quantum computing. Our primary objective is to collaborate with system companies and universities to develop quantum devices with significantly lower error rates compared to current standards. Our approach centers on harnessing state of the art materials engineering and semiconductor processing, as well as our expertise in advanced optics and other relevant areas to enhance device performance. To achieve this goal, we're seeking individuals with a strong background in quantum technology to join our expanding team. The position will entail the following:

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Experience in semiconductor processing is required; prior knowledge in one or more of the following areas is preferred: lithography, PVD, and CVD

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with integration, process hardware, and metrology teams to design and develop next-generation quantum computing devices.
  • Perform lithography setup wafer analysis to characterize and define process windows.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes, fabrication process flow and operate fabrication tools at a fundamental level.
  • Explore new growth opportunities by leveraging Applied’s expertise in precision materials engineering.
