About The Position

As the Research and Development Chemist, you will be  responsible for supporting chemical production processes through advanced analytical expertise, laboratory experimentation, and process optimization. This role encompasses troubleshooting abnormal conditions, implementing standardized procedures, and ensuring product quality through rigorous testing and analysis. The position requires hands-on execution of complex chemical reactions, maintenance of analytical instruments, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 3+ years in a chemical laboratory or production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of organic and inorganic reaction mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques and instrumentation maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across teams.
  • Familiarity with DCS systems and quality control processes.
  • Must possess user skills of SAP computer program.
  • Computer skills – MS Office, Outlook, SAP, SPC & Statistical Calculations
  • Understanding of Quality systems including ISO 9000
  • Lead Investigations and make recommendations
  • Audit systems and performance
  • Understanding of Analytical Instrumentation (GC, LC, AA, ICP, pH meter, viscometer, spectrophotomer, colorimeter, densitometer, titrators, balances, resistivity meter, etc.)
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes and operations
  • Document results accurately and review documentation (labels, equipment, readings) and calculations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a chemical manufacturing laboratory environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and 14001 requirements a plus.
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems and Quality Assurance concepts including application of current Good Manufacturing Practices a plus.
  • ASQ Certifications to quality area preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment along with managing multiple projects/priorities/tasks simultaneously.
  • May require up to 10% travel

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for performance to Lab and Plant goals.
  • Provide analytical support to production, troubleshooting upset conditions, reaction stalls, and other abnormal situations.
  • Implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GFMs) to meet plant and laboratory standards.
  • Perform synthesis reactions, vacuum distillation, and washing procedures in alignment with production methods.
  • Execute nucleophilic substitutions, elimination, phosphorylation, and redox reactions.
  • Navigate and utilize the Distributed Control System (DCS) server for process monitoring.
  • Incorporate innovative ideas into experimental procedures for product improvement and development.
  • Conduct instrumental and wet chemical methods for quality control.
  • Perform routine maintenance on analytical instruments.
  • Communicate effectively with production and engineering teams regarding abnormal results.
  • Qualify or disqualify new supplier materials based on analytical evaluation.
  • Provide general laboratory coverage and support as needed.
  • Maintain housekeeping standard including clean work areas.
  • Dump all lab samples in approved containers
  • Retain laboratory and legacy samples.
  • Adhere to plant policies, especially Safety Rules and proper PPE.
  • Complete other projects as directed and all other tasks/duties as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.
