About The Position

SCOPE OF POSITION The clinical physicist in Radiation Oncology is responsible for specification and acquisition of all radiation generating equipment, calibration of the treatment machines and acquisition and maintenance of all dosimetry and health-physics equipment. Reviews OSU radiation treatment charts and instructs personnel in principles and regulations related to radiation therapy physics, dosimetry and radiation protection. POSITION SUMMARY Under indirect supervision, provides professional medical physics services at the Department of Radiation Medicine (or its outreach/affiliates) of the Medical Center. Evaluates and interprets medical radiation treatment prescriptions. Collaborates with medical providers in the design and modification of effective radiation treatments for patients; oversees and monitors treatment plans developed by Dosimetrists, and participates in development and execution of equipment monitoring, calibration, and safety surveys. Provide technical assistance in the development of treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy; monitor patients; maintain established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement, and safety; perform clinical research as required.

Requirements

  • Master of Science degree with math and physics concentration, preferably in Medical Physics.
  • Specialization in clinical radiation, therapeutic physics.
  • Extensive progressively responsible experience in Radiation Oncology, Clinical Physics and Radiation Therapy.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience, either through previous work experience, or clinical Radiation Oncology Residency.
  • ABR eligible at a minimum.
  • If not currently ABR certified, it is expected that ABR certification will be obtained within 3 years of hire.
