About The Position

The radiation protection supervisor is responsible for providing active leadership by supervising a team of radiation protection technicians responsible for health physics related activities that support the conduct of operations and maintenance activities within radiologically controlled areas of the facility. The person in this position will be responsible for providing oversight of the work management processes and the planning and preparation to support radiological work activities. The supervisor implements procedures to meet site and regulatory requirements. The supervisor also supports the emergency response organization by filling a designated position within the on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in one of the physical sciences or engineering strongly preferred
  • 5 years’ experience in radiation protection at a nuclear reactor facility. A minimum of two of the five years should be related technical training.
  • Knowledge of plant procedures and regulations
  • Knowledge of plant systems and processes
  • Knowledge of the work management process
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain priorities
  • Effective teamwork and sustaining working relationships across disciplines
  • Any applicant accepting this position will be required to meet background screening and fitness for duty requirements.
  • Any applicant accepting this position will be required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position/access requirements and essential job functions.
  • Any applicant accepting this position will be required to live within a 90-minute response time of Plant Hatch for emergency response availability

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead the radiation protection technicians by developing clear goals, accountabilities, performance measures and developmental plans; hold employees accountable for demonstrating performance that is consistent with expected performance; plan for workforce changes to ensure work is not interrupted; value input from employees and incorporate suggestions, as appropriate.
  • Engaged in the work management process by participating in the T week planning and critique process and providing direct oversight of field activities.
  • Spend regular time in the field with employees providing oversight and direction, developing trust, and fostering relationships that promote an engaged workforce.
  • Strive to improve the processes within the radiation protection department that drive continuous improvement.
