About The Position

Evaluates, implements, and controls companys radioactive waste management programs and procedures to protect against radiation hazards. Recommends and develops policies for inspection standards, decontamination procedures, emergency procedures, waste handling, and disposal services. Controls personnel radiation exposures, environmental releases, and surface-type contaminants. Stays abreast of federal, state, local, and industry radiation protection regulations and ensures that radiation levels are in compliance with standards. May develop and direct radiation training and monitoring programs. The person hired for this position will be an instructor in the Radiological Training for Nuclear Engineers (Article 109 RTNE) program. RTNE Instructors develop and deliver initial and continuing radiological training for nuclear engineers at NNS in support of Article 109 qualification. Other duties include prepare and administer retention of knowledge examinations, maintain administrative training records both in physical form and in LX, and implement continuous improvement initiatives for training operations. RTNE instructors must be strong in using MS Office suite, especially presentation software. Success Factors, CheckBox, and other learning development/delivery platforms are also used. RTNE instructors must demonstrate professionalism, leadership, and radiological expertise inside and outside the classroom, create a positive learning environment, and encourage a principles-based approach to applying radiological controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
  • One of the following may be used as an equivalent to Bachelor's Degree for Information Technology Related Positions Only:NNS Apprentice School graduate Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
  • A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.
  • A highly qualified candidate will have experience at an NNPP site with writing and/or reviewing Naval Nuclear work instructions that contain radiological controls, especially for complex nuclear and/or radiological work.
  • Previous experience as an Article 109 RTNE Instructor meets this expectation.

Nice To Haves

  • Nuclear training, radiological training, or other adult training experience and/or knowledge of adult learning theories is also preferred.
  • An RTNE qualification will be required to perform the duties of an RTNE instructor; the RTNE qualification can be earned as a part of the instructor onboarding and qualification process.
