About The Position

The Non-Registered Radiologic Technologist performs under the indirect supervision of a registered technologist and is responsible for a variety of clinical, technical, and clerical duties within their scope of knowledge and training. Responsibilities include producing diagnostic radiographs, assisting in CT and other radiologic modalities, transporting patients, and supporting departmental operations.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an approved Radiologic Technology Program
  • Must have successfully passed all clinical competencies administered by the program
  • Upon completion of program, must be eligible to apply for a Mississippi State Board of Health Medical Radiation Technologist license and ARRT certification
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures as ordered, following department and SCRMC policies
  • Verify physician orders for accuracy, including appropriate exam and diagnosis
  • Confirm patient identity prior to performing exams
  • Practice radiation safety and infection control procedures
  • Support radiologists and registered technologists during procedures
  • Transport patients safely and efficiently as needed
  • Participate in educational sessions and learn new procedures or technologies
  • Maintain accurate documentation using RIS and PACS systems
  • Keep assigned work areas clean, organized, and stocked
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, positioning, and correct labeling
  • Assist in portable radiography and trauma cases
  • Report status of duties and observations to radiology supervisor or team leader
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and physicians
  • Maintain professionalism and promote teamwork across all SCRMC departments
  • Understand and apply anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology relevant to imaging
  • Accurately perform radiographic positioning and exposure techniques
  • Use ethical judgment and critical thinking in clinical decisions
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills
  • Participate in continuing education for skill development and certification readiness
  • Maintain attention to detail and follow safety protocols
  • Operate imaging equipment, RIS, and CR systems proficiently
  • Demonstrate physical ability to lift/move 50–100 pounds, bend, twist, kneel, and stand for long periods
  • Follow directions, maintain reliability, and work collaboratively in a high-stress environment
