About The Position

Wellstar Cobb in Austell, Georgia is seeking a FT Day Lead Rad Tech 2. The FT Day Lead Rad Tech 2 must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for procedures. Acts as a clinical coordinator for imaging students. Fills out student rotation evaluations honestly and ethically. Provides constructive criticism to students during rotation. Functions as a clinical instructor for students in the Medical Imaging department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Radiologic Technology — Required
  • ARRT Radiography
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association — Required
  • Minimum 2 years as a Rad Tech — Required

Responsibilities

  • Obtains complete clinical history, gathers exam data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
  • Follows established procedures for administering contrast medias to ensure patient safety.
  • Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and right/left markers.
  • Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
  • Responds to emergency situations and restocks crash cart and life support equipment.
  • Assists technologists in all modalities when needed.
  • Observes patient condition and evaluates when physician intervention is necessary.
  • Verifies two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical order prior to procedure.
  • Ensures patient privacy and comfort.
  • Demonstrates competence in appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
  • Organizes schedule, time and priorities to ensure timely completion of all activities.
  • Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
  • Uses critical thinking skills.
  • Asks clarifying questions and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
  • Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time‑Out process when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates and understands pre‑ and post‑procedural care.
  • Preps the patient for procedures.
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.
  • Maintains competency with venipuncture when applicable.
  • Adjusts technique to ensure the patient receives the lowest possible ionizing radiation dose while maintaining image quality.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment promptly.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment per infection control and department schedules.
  • Operates all aspects of the imaging system.
  • Operates all radiographic equipment safely and competently; ensures equipment is not abused and remains in good working order.
  • Clearly explains purpose and nature of exam using AIDET to minimize anxiety and increase cooperation.
  • Ensures patient questions or contraindications are addressed; notifies physician when unresolved.
  • Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees.
  • Provides preparatory instructions and procedure explanations.
  • Documentation is concise, legible and uses precise terminology.
  • Reads daily email and follows through on assignments.
  • Completes mandatory departmental and hospital‑wide education without prompting.
  • Consistently produces high‑quality images including correct collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration and positioning.
  • Ensures equipment is fully operational by checking calibration and operating deficiencies.
  • Sends all studies to PACS and prints CDs as necessary; ensures RIS documentation is accurate, complete, labeled and oriented correctly.
  • Prints and scans teleradiography studies when applicable.
  • Checks prior exams for proper loading and labeling before sending to PACS.
  • Restocks linens and supplies and maintains Diagnostic Imaging Services in clean and orderly condition.
  • Transports patients, positions patients and assists them on/off the procedure table.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day service is rendered.
  • Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices.
  • Willingly assists coworkers and shares knowledge without prompting.
  • Performs routine clerical and support duties as needed to maintain continuity and quality of service.
  • Keeps supervisor informed and promptly reports potential problems.
  • Maintains individual productivity equal to coworkers.
  • Maintains Joint Commission standards and any other regulatory agency standards.
  • Transfers and retrieves images on PACS.
  • Takes call when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar policies, standards of work and code of conduct.
