About The Position

The Radiologic Technologist - Special Procedures works in the cardio-endovascular catheterization laboratory performing a number of special duties including, but not limited to; operating all of the radiographic fluoroscopic equipment while performing general diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Works with and provides assistance to all physicians, radiologic technologists, cardiovascular technologists, and nurses, to maintain a customer friendly environment in the laboratory. Participates and shares with call rotation, while adhering to variable shift scheduling.

Requirements

  • A copy of your highest science-related academic diploma or transcript.
  • Oregon State Board of Radiologic Technology.
  • Registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire.
  • If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider.
  • ACLS required within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Uses effective written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Behavior and appearance support a professional image.
  • Demonstrates skills in caring for the adult and geriatric patient.
  • Demonstrates computer application skills.
  • Maintain Technical Systems (Xcelera, XIM, FD-10, FD 20 as examples) and act as first line for troubleshooting.
  • Willingness to develop understanding of billing and coding procedures for cath lab procedures.
  • Adhere to the policy and standards of the department.
  • Required rolls for this position are: 1. X-Ray Proficiency 2. Monitoring Proficiency 3. Scrubbing Proficiency 4. Case Circulator Proficiency
  • Adheres to the policies governing and the monthly schedule directing “on call” coverage of the unit.
  • Complies with all radiation safety policies and practices.
  • Follows departmental policy and practice for adding or deleting cases from the schedule.
  • Follows organizational and departmental policies for computer systems, to correctly order, retrieve, complete, and charge for procedures and maintain integrity of databases.
  • Utilizes problem-solving techniques to make decisions related to patient care and departmental activity.
  • Works as a part of a team to promote a positive department reputation.
  • Shares information with co-workers in a non-judgmental way that expands the knowledge and skills of each party.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year experience in digital and cine imaging and archiving.
  • At least one (1) year experience in diagnostic and interventional procedures in a cardiac and/or general catheterization laboratory.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs calculations and measurements using data obtained from heart catheterizations including CO, pressure measurements and valve calculations.
  • Assists physician by scrubbing during procedures, maneuvering catheters and wires, and injecting contrast into blood vessels.
  • Routinely participates in daily, weekly, and monthly QI/QC of the “point of care” machines and defibrillators.
  • Participates in maintaining, restocking and inventorying the department supplies and reports any sub-par levels to the appropriate person.
  • Maintains and handles sterile equipment under principles of aseptic technique.
  • Sets up, programs, and runs the IVUS machine, under the direction of a physician.
  • Assists with the IABP set up and insertion, under the direction of a physician.
  • Provides basic administrative reports from the database.
  • Maintains, archives, retrieves, locates, and copies present and prior studies done in the laboratory.
  • Troubleshoots routine radiologic and computer system problems and reports as necessary.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients based on principles of growth and development and life stages.
  • Utilizes feedback from customers to help make decisions regarding services and departmental activity.
  • Recognizes and reports normals and abnormals in patient physiology and hemodynamic parameters.
  • Assures a quality product, by reviewing and correcting any documentation related to patient care during a procedure, charge submission and statistical counts.
  • Looks for ways to role model and improve customer service.
  • Utilizes down time to complete tasks that help maintain and assure departmental operations.
