About The Position

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs diagnostic exams on patients as ordered by a physician/provider. Responsible for the care and safety of patients and the proper use of equipment to minimize hazards of electrical shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients, self and others. Responsible for safe handling of equipment and images. Works under the direction of a radiologist. Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic and/or fluoroscopic examinations. Selects appropriate equipment and techniques to minimize radiation to patients, self and others in conjunction with the ALARA principle. Determines most suitable anatomical positions and shields patients accordingly. Able to assess patient pain interfering with an imaging procedure – makes appropriate physician/provider contact for intervention. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including, pediatric, special needs, geriatric and general population. Operates all equipment; including DR, CR, portable, C-Arms and OR equipment to produce a variety of exams. Is also proficient in most CT exams. Clearly marks images with patient name, date of birth, laterality and additional identifiers as appropriate. Adheres to departmental imaging protocols. Processes and critiques images to ensure high quality studies are obtained. Practices medical and surgical aseptic techniques. Maintains accurate files, basic records, and reports. Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel. Interacts professionally with patients, family, and visitors. Completes all work prior to the end of each shift. Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations. Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.

Requirements

  • Adheres to dress code standards, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and CMS regulations.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians/providers, departments and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians/providers, staff, administration, patients and visitors.
  • Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process a required.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding departmental operations, fire, safety and infection control.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized time system correctly.
  • Attends annual review and departmental meetings, as scheduled.
  • Attends staff meetings, reads all staff meeting minutes if absent from meeting.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics, and goals of the hospital.
  • High School graduate
  • Graduate from an approved school of Radiologic Technology
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Is proficient and/or registered in CT
  • Licensed by the State of Kansas (LRT), or become licensed within one year of hire date
  • Current BLS certification
  • Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, pathology, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Proficiency of radiographic equipment hardware and software
