A Radiology Technologist performs diagnostic imaging examinations using X-ray and other imaging technologies to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. The technologist ensures patient safety, image quality, and compliance with radiation safety standards.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited radiography program
  • Must be licensed/registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.(ARRT)
  • Must have current licensure to practice in N.Y.S.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Must have good working knowledge of radiographic anatomy, radiation physics, and film chemistry. Must have a good working knowledge of anatomic postures for positioning of patients to obtain optimal diagnosis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures such as X-rays, fluoroscopy, and mobile radiography
  • Operates x-ray equipment, fixed or mobile, develops film, prepares x-ray room, equipment, supplies and medications.
  • Prepare and position patients correctly for imaging procedures
  • Explain imaging procedures and address patient concerns
  • Operate radiologic imaging equipment safely and effectively
  • Follow radiation safety and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles
  • Ensure accurate patient identification and proper documentation
  • Evaluate image quality and repeat images when necessary
  • Assist physicians during imaging-guided procedures
  • Maintain and care for imaging equipment
  • Adhere to infection control, patient privacy (HIPAA), and safety protocols
