We are currently hiring for the position of a dedicated and skilled Rail Yard Driver to join our team. This role is essential to the daily operations of our terminal and is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers within the intermodal rail terminal. This role requires a strong understanding of heavy equipment operation and a commitment to maintaining safety standards in compliance with OSHA regulations. Employees will train at the entry-level Ground position directing crane operators who are loading and unloading cargo containers from railcars. The ground person is also responsible for preparing railcars for loading and unloading by removing and installing IBC locks. Once training is complete the employee will begin training in the Hostler Driver position. Drivers perform a variety of driving tasks, including hauling containers from the rail track to other areas of the intermodal yard for outside driver pickup, moving chassis, and moving containers about the intermodal yard in a safe and efficient manner.

Requirements

• Proven experience in heavy equipment operation, particularly with forklifts and side loader.
• Familiarity with railroad operations and intermodal transportation environment.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks as required by the job.
• Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
• Understanding of safety regulations, including OSHA standards related to intermodal transportation operations.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.

• Prior experience in a similar role is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Operate yard trucks (hostler) to move trailers in and out of loading docks.
• Load and unload freight using forklifts, side loaders, and order equipment as necessary.
• Ensure that all equipment is operated safely and efficiently, adhering to company policies and OSHA guidelines.
• Conduct routine inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Maintain a clean and organized rail yard area, ensuring that all materials are stored properly.
• Assist with heavy lifting tasks as needed, ensuring that safety protocols are followed at all times.
• Collaborate with railroad staff to ensure timely loading and unloading of goods.
• Must have open availability to work any needed shift and weekends.
• Employees are subject to a shift change every six months.
