About The Position

The Ranch Chef is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing high-quality meals for guest groups ranging from 5 to 80 people. This role combines culinary leadership with hands-on hospitality support. Because ranch operations fluctuate with event schedules, the Ranch Chef must also be flexible and willing to assist with broader guest services when culinary demand is lower. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys cooking at scale, thrives in a team environment, and values creating exceptional guest experiences in a ranch setting.

Requirements

  • Experience cooking for groups (commercial, catering, camp, restaurant, or institutional setting)
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility and willingness to perform non-culinary tasks
  • Physical ability to lift, stand, and move throughout the day
  • Commitment to cleanliness and food safety
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Background check and drug screen required upon offer of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Professional culinary training or equivalent experience
  • Experience with large-batch cooking and buffet service
  • Knowledge of dietary accommodations (gluten-free, dairy-free, allergies, etc.)
  • ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Hospitality, retreat, or ranch experience

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute meals for retreats, events, and guest stays (5–80 people)
  • Design thoughtful, seasonal menus that align with guest needs, dietary restrictions, and event goals
  • Create detailed shopping lists
  • Maintain food cost awareness and minimize waste
  • Oversee kitchen organization, cleanliness, and food safety standards
  • Coordinate, vet, & manage additional cooking or service help as needed
  • Prepare, cook, and present meals to a high standard
  • Ensure timely meal service according to event schedules
  • Maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and equipment
  • Event curation and planning support
  • Guest transportation (if qualified to drive ranch vehicles)
  • Event setup and teardown (tables, décor, dining areas, etc.)
  • General hospitality assistance to ensure a seamless guest experience
  • Occasional housekeeping or common-area support as needed
  • Team collaboration across departments
