About The Position

HII Mission Technologies is seeking skilled Welder to support our defense and maritime operations. In thisyou will be preforming by performing a range of welding processes—including SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW—and related tasks on shipboard structures and systems to support refit and fleet modernization efforts on naval vessels, submarines, or within specialized shore facilities. You will work in a fast-paced environment where precision and safety are paramount to national security. Our Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) works on the only shipyard to execute the RCOH of aircraft carriers halfway through a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier’s 50-year service. The mid-life RCOH includes refueling of nuclear reactors, overhauling most machinery, and modernizing warfare systems. RCOH ensures the Navy's aircraft carriers incorporate improved capabilities needed for success in the remaining 25 years of service. Requirements

  • Must have welding experience with stick welding (SMAW) process and positions.
  • Must have strong knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, weldments, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts and/or work orders as well as written and verbal instruction for products to be fabricated and/or installed.
  • Must be capable of using various measuring instruments.
  • Must have knowledge of quality control steps and procedures.
  • Must adhere to safety and quality procedures set forth by HII and host facilities.
  • Must have experience working in a team environment.
  • Candidate must be able to interpret blueprints, drawings and/or specifications to fabricated and/or install piping systems.
  • Candidate must be proficient with use of layout tools.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance.
  • Candiate must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date, and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  • Candidate must be able to provide hand tools per trades designation.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Tradesperson 1 - High School education and 1 year of related experience, or Trade School or equivalent. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Mastertradesperson 2- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 2 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Mastertradesperson 3- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Mastertreadesperson 4 - High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Tech Subject Matter Expert - High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.

Nice To Haves

  • Must have welding experience with gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process in all positions from 2G to 6G for Aluminum.
  • experience with stick welding (SMAW) process in all positions from 2G to 6G for Carbon and Stainless Steel.
  • Shipboard experience preferred.(Requirement for senior level)
  • Ability to develop specifications for the purpose of fabrication and/or installed preferred.
  • Providing current or prior silver brazing qualification certificates Grade III, IV and V a plus.
  • Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school or a skilled trade certificate program are preferred.
  • Candidate with a current or active DoD clearance preferred.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus.
  • Able to supervise small team, providing guidance as needed.
  • Ability to obtain higher qualifications needed for the project i.e. ( Aluminum, Copper Nickel)
  • Ability to obtain thin wall qualification
  • Knowledge Oxygen/Acetylene and Plasma cutting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.
  • Support trades team by working on active class surface ships to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.
  • Perform a variety of simple and complicated tasks, both routine and non-routine, including those outside of specialty, related to shipboard maintenance to meet standards on various contracts at company, customer and/or field locations.
  • Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.
  • Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify structural and piping elements and equipment.
  • Lay out and mark points and lines on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.
  • Cut, fit, assemble, and position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, and existing structure using hand and powered tools.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
  • Apply comprehensive understanding of appropriate welding processes and production to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weld-able materials toward completion of assignments.
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
  • Provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced welders. May serve as a group leader.
