About The Position

Boardwalk Investments Group, LLC ("Boardwalk") is a privately held commercial real estate investment company. Headquartered in Costa Mesa, California. The Firm currently manages a commercial real estate portfolio comprised of retail, mixed-use, office and multifamily assets located primarily in Orange County, California and is led by a seasoned management team with over 50 years of commercial real estate experience. Since 2012, Boardwalk's investment strategy is to actively acquire, stabilize, and manage commercial real estate located in core, coastal markets in California. The Real Estate Attorney serves as the organization’s primary legal advisor on all real estate–related matters, providing strategic and practical counsel across acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, and property operations. This role is responsible for managing legal risk, ensuring compliance with applicable real estate laws and regulations, and supporting transactional and operational initiatives. The Real Estate Attorney partners closely with executive leadership, finance, development, and operations teams to deliver timely legal guidance, efficiently manage real estate legal matters, and support the organization’s overall business and investment objectives.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction(s).
  • 8+ years of legal experience with a strong emphasis on commercial real estate leasing.
  • Proven expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial lease agreements.
  • In-depth knowledge of landlord-tenant law, real estate regulations, and leasing industry best practices.
  • Experience advising real estate owners, operators, developers, or asset management teams.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and issue-spotting skills with sound business judgment.
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance and support for all aspects of commercial property leasing transactions.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate commercial lease documents, including new leases, amendments, renewals, subleases, assignments, estoppels, SNDA agreements, and lease terminations.
  • Partner closely with leasing, asset management, and property management teams to support leasing strategies, negotiate business terms, and ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Conduct legal due diligence on prospective tenants, including review of financial statements, credit reports, guaranties, and organizational documents.
  • Advise on lease interpretation, compliance, enforcement, and dispute resolution, including defaults, remedies, and landlord-tenant disputes.
  • Manage outside counsel related to leasing, litigation, and specialized real estate matters, as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized lease templates, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and consistency across the portfolio.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in federal, state, and local laws affecting commercial real estate and leasing; proactively advise leadership on risk mitigation and compliance.
  • Provide legal support for general corporate matters, including contracts, risk management, compliance, insurance matters, and corporate governance.
  • Support executive leadership with strategic legal advice related to business operations and long-term planning.
