About The Position

The Rebates Manager is responsible for managing daily rebate operations and ensuring accurate, timely execution of rebate-related activities. This role oversees the end-to-end rebate lifecycle, including program setup, accruals, invoicing, and collections, while ensuring compliance with internal controls and audit requirements. Key responsibilities include creating and maintaining rebate programs; accruing rebate activity through both system-generated and manual processes; preparing and delivering rebate invoices to customers; and monitoring and collecting receivables. Must possess a strong, foundational understanding of revenue recognition and be able to educate internal stakeholders. The manager ensures rebates are accrued and billed in a timely and accurate manner and oversees period-end close activities, including journal entries and analysis of rebate income and activity. The manager also brings thought leadership to the department with respect to end-to-end process engineering, simplification and automation. The manager will help to drive new ways of working to further standardize processes, eliminate exceptions, and drive value through analytics and enhanced reporting. A thorough understanding of merchandise margin and how rebates factor into it is critical to overall success in the role. The Rebates Manager serves as a primary liaison for third-party audit reviews, providing documentation, explanations, and support as needed. In addition, this role provides team leadership by supervising, training, and mentoring staff to ensure strong performance and development. This position also plays a critical role in developing and implementing controls, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy. The manager partners closely with internal stakeholders to report on rebate performance and drive continuous improvement in rebate-related processes. Success in This Role Looks Like Rebate programs are set up accurately and managed consistently, with clear documentation and minimal downstream corrections. Rebate accruals—both system-generated and manual—are complete, timely, and supported by strong analysis and controls. Customer rebate invoices are created and delivered on time, with discrepancies proactively identified and resolved. Receivables are actively monitored, collections are timely, and outstanding balances are clearly communicated and addressed. Month-end and period-end close activities are executed smoothly, with accurate journal entries and insightful analysis of rebate income and activity. Third-party audit reviews are well supported, with organized documentation and efficient responses that result in minimal audit findings. The team is well trained, engaged, and performing at a high level, with clear expectations, ongoing coaching, and development. Processes, controls, and procedures are continuously improved to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Strong partnerships are built with internal stakeholders, enabling clear reporting, transparency, and continuous improvement in rebate performance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required (Bachelor’s degree in related field with direct merchandise rebates experience will also be considered)
  • Development-focused: Coach, mentor and build on employees’ strengths and foster an inclusive environment
  • Thought leader and process engineer: Evaluate current state and make/implement recommendations for future improvements
  • Effective Communication: Clear and open dialogue, active listening, and ensuring transparency in decisions

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Prior experience with merchandise rebates and/or revenue recognition preferred
