About The Position

The Recreation Aide/Memory Care provides support in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational activities tailored to the needs of residents, particularly those with memory impairments. This role is essential in promoting socialization, cognitive stimulation, and overall well-being of veterans residing at the Southern Utah Veterans Home. We would like to post a Recreation position supporting both the Memory Care and Skilled Nursing units, with the primary focus on Memory Care. The position is Full Time, working Monday-Friday 9-5pm, subject to working weekends when needed. $22.50/hour The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in Memory Care, able to cover additional shifts when needed, and must have a CTRS license.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with elderly populations, preferably in memory care or long-term care settings, is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate residents with varying cognitive abilities.
  • Compassionate, patient, and attentive to the needs of veterans.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • comfortable working in Memory Care
  • able to cover additional shifts when needed
  • must have a CTRS license

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of recreational therapy principles is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and conducting recreational programs and activities designed for residents with memory care needs.
  • Engage residents in meaningful activities that promote mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
  • Provide one-on-one and group support to residents during activities, ensuring safety and participation.
  • Observe and report changes in residents’ behavior or condition to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to enhance resident care and activity planning.
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of activity areas and materials.
  • Encourage resident independence and dignity through supportive interactions.
