GENERAL FUNCTION: The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the overall day-to-day functioning of the Meaningful Day Program including public relations, overall planning, coordination, and implementation of all activities for the and overnight trips. These activities range from daily classes, short overnight trips, to weeklong destination vacations with participants and volunteers. Also responsible for recruitment of program participants, staff, and volunteers through advertising as well as presentation and person-to-person contact

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience working with the developmentally disabled population.
  • Must have flexibility and adaptability to work in changing and stressful environments as well as the ability to travel overnight or for up to 5 days in a given week.
  • Maintain a current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Must be competent in creating, editing, and formatting documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.
  • Required to have current and valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Must pass and maintain required background check record.

  • Experience working with volunteers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and oversee a schedule of activities and trips on a weekly/monthly basis.
  • Working with supervisor to ensure budget objectives are maintained.
  • Overall supervision and administration of day-to-day operation of the meaningful day activities.
  • Creation of new programs and destination activities.
  • Ensuring the health and safety of program participants by following plans of care.
  • Contacting and attending local transition fairs and other special events for public relations.
  • Host annual community/participant forum to gather material for future development as well as gathering data for United Way grants and other funding sources as needed.
  • Maintaining all required client data and ensure confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain adequate inventory of recreational supplies.
  • Assist Disability Services program with helping program clients obtain community access.
  • Other duties as assigned.
