Our Senior Centers offer a range of activities and services, including meals, social services, educational workshops, exercise classes, discussion groups, games, art classes, lectures, workshops, health screenings, organized outings and more. STATEMENT OF THE JOB: The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the full complement of educational and recreational activities and programs for the Older Adult Center including maintaining all the linkages to resources. Recreation coordinators organize and schedule activities for seniors, design and monitor recreation events, and lead activities to help seniors stay active, improve fitness of mind and body and have fun. They work with groups in centers, parks and other settings.

Requirements

  • BA Degree in Social Services or related field or High School Diploma with 2 years’ experience working with educational and recreational programs.
  • Experience in working in a senior center or older adult facility.
  • Ability to travel to different locations to attend meetings and trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule and oversee the day-to-day activities of the education and recreation programs of the Older Adult Center.
  • Produce monthly newsletters and develop flyers.
  • Make announcements daily to seniors regarding upcoming events and activities.
  • Initiate and maintain linkages with resources and partners to ensure there is a diversity and full range of activities that meet needs and desires of older adults.
  • In collaboration with center’ team assess activities and ensure that data is collected and analyzed.
  • Participates in planning and implementation of on-going outreach to the community to advertise the rich array of diverse activities at the center.
  • Develop creative and innovative engagement activities, including virtual presentations and events, as well as digital engagement opportunities through social media.
  • Lead discussion groups and teach computer classes for the beginner.
  • Provides support in data entry, developing, extracting reports using database.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate volunteers and college interns that are linguistically appropriate for the population (e.g. Chinese, Spanish, Russian, Polish, English) to assist with the ed/rec activities.
  • Attend trainings for DFTA evidence-based workshops and assist in implementing those trainings at the center.
