About The Position

OVERVIEW OF ROLE (Gymnastics) Under direct supervision, take a collaborative approach in developing our athletes and show a strong commitment to our participants and coworkers. This position offers the chance to join an inspired and dedicated coaching staff and become an integral part of our team. The Parks and Recreation department is seeking Gymnastics Instructors to work in Ongoing/Varied roles for our rec centers. We will be hiring multiple employees based on our programs and hours of operation through mid-March. Ongoing/Varied: Work less than 20 hours/week with no planned end date to work. No medical, dental, or vision insurance is available, but employees receive benefits including sick time-off, wellness program, EcoPass for transit, recreation pass, and retirement plans. GYMNASTICS ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Teaches gymnastics to preschool children ages 2 - 5 years old. Teaches school-aged, recreational gymnastics, ages 6 and older. Sets up equipment, maintain roll sheets, and communicate with parents. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents and injuries. Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or customers. Performs customer relations role which may include interacting with parents, participants, program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems. Works as part of a team, attending training, orientation and/or staff meeting as needed Assists with coaching Xcel girls’ teams or boys’ competitive program after proven job performance or experience.

Requirements

  • Ability to stay actively engaged and assist with spotting of gymnastics skills.
  • Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned areas and make judgments related to safety.
  • Ability to keep accurate records, organize information, and follow established procedures.
  • Ability to t actfully and effectively communicate with participants, parents, & coordinators, with excellent customer service.
  • Ability to collaborate with coaching partners about lesson plan ideas.
  • Work closely with coordinators and floor leads.
  • Ability and willingness to accept and provide feedback.
  • Knowledge and strong understanding of basic gymnastics with the ability to provide coaching feedback to participants while ensuring proper class management tactics.
  • Knowledge and understanding and observing participant behavior and monitoring exertion levels.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of punctuality & consistency with the ability to commit to the agreed-upon schedule.
  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history
  • No education or experience is required for this role

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with preschool and school age children.
  • Current Red Cross or equivalent CPR & First Aid certification.
  • Prior or current member of USAG Gymnastics (USAG), either as an athlete or professional member.
  • Prior experience performing or teaching gymnastics.
