About The Position

GENERAL PURPOSE: Responsible for assisting with community events. Wheat Ridge was founded during the 1859 Gold Rush as a rest stop for miners and later named for its golden wheat fields. As unsuccessful miners turned to farming, the area thrived with orchards, vegetable fields, and later, greenhouses, earning the title “Carnation City.” Incorporated in 1969, Wheat Ridge now offers a central location with easy access to Denver and the Rocky Mountains. It operates as a home-rule city with a council-manager government, where the elected council sets policy, and the manager oversees daily operations and budgeting. Requirements

  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • American Red Cross Infant/Child/Adult CPR, AED, First Aid are required before first scheduled event.
  • Working knowledge of community events, equipment, departmental rules and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively and diplomatically with participants, caregivers, co-workers and public and react quickly and correctly in emergency situations.
  • Instruct and oversee a large group, lead games and/or activities, enforce safety regulations firmly, analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action.

Responsibilities

  • Review event plans prior to arrival at event location.
  • Facilitate the event set-up to include welcoming vendors and volunteers, set-up tents, tables, activity supplies and cleaning of event locations.
  • Greet participants, monitor safety and provide customer service.
  • Implement activities for participants including, but not limited to, refreshments, arts and crafts, sports and games, outdoor recreation, team-building activities, creative play, and giveaway and marking materials.
  • Provide a safe and fun environment in which participants, volunteers, and vendors feel comfortable.
  • Provide feedback regarding programs, events and classes and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Actively participate in activities attached to events.
  • Develop positive relations with customers and provide information concerning events, facilities and program(s) to participants, volunteers and vendors.
  • Respond to problems, conflicts, issues, and emergencies and work to resolve them appropriately.
