About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Recreation Member Services Representative I warmly welcomes community members to our facilities, makes sure they have an enjoyable time while they're in attendance, and wishes them a fond farewell, leaving them looking forward to their next visit. This person is responsible for point-of-sale transactions, membership check ins, and assisting with any program or facility questions that patrons may have. The Parks and Recreation department is seeking individuals to work in Ongoing/Varied and Seasonal roles. We will be hiring multiple employees based on our programs and hours of operation through the end of April. Please keep in mind that the city’s benefit package offer will differ based upon work hours and the duration of the assignment you accept. • Ongoing/Varied: Work less than 20 hours/week with no planned end date to work. No medical, dental, or vision insurance is available, but employees receive benefits including sick time-off, wellness program, EcoPass for transit, recreation pass, and retirement plans. • Seasonal Max: March – September. Work six (6) to 11 months, averaging more than 30 hours/week. Medical insurance is offered, but not dental or vision insurance. Other benefits received include sick time-off, wellness program, EcoPass for transit, recreation pass, and retirement plans. • Seasonal Traditional: May – September. Work less than six (6) months, averaging more than 30 hours/week. No medical, dental, or vision insurance is available, but employees receive benefits including sick time-off, wellness program, EcoPass for transit, recreation pass, and retirement plans. • Seasonal Limited Hours: March – September. Work less than 11 months, averaging less than 30 hours/week. No medical, dental, or vision insurance is offered, but employees receive benefits including sick time-off, wellness program, EcoPass for transit, recreation pass, and retirement plans.

Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate cash handling experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse people in an organizational context.
  • Ability, Interest, desire, and ability to provide excellent customer service in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and possibly City holidays.
  • Valid Driver’s license and ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle background.
  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
  • First Aid/AED and CPR certifications within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working for a public or private recreation facility.
  • Experience with SmartRec by Amilia recreation management software system
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (Conversational level in Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service to the patrons of the recreation facilities.
  • Interacts with the Department of Parks and Recreation customers by greeting patrons, answering phones, providing information about services and programs, checking in patrons and checking out equipment.
  • Communicates effectively with facility patrons in person and over the phone to market and promote Parks and Recreation Programs and services, which may include giving tours and preparing flyers.
  • Understands and effectively enforces all relevant code and City policy that dictates use of the facilities to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all.
  • Operates the recreation management system.
  • Registers participants for classes and activities
  • Sells memberships and daily entries; checks patrons in to use the facility.
  • Utilizes the facility calendars to understand scheduled events.
  • Stays informed of all related events, policies, and updates relevant to the role through City communication channels
  • Performs cash handling in accordance with the City and Department policies and internal controls and can accurately balance cash drawer and provide accurate change
  • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city.
  • Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents.
  • Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.
  • Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and damage to City property.
  • Knows and complies with all City and department personnel policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.
  • Maintains functional and clean spaces in the facility When custodial staff are not available.
  • Supports facility operations during emergency response events as needed.
