About The Position

Manages a recreational center or facility and in addition, plans and conducts a variety of recreational activities in support of a planned recreation program.

Requirements

  • A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and one (1) year of general work experience; and two (2) years of specialized work experience.
  • Qualifying General Work Experience: Any work experience which may involve the basic skills: reading, writing, computation, and communication.
  • Qualifying Specialized Work Experience: Work experience in organizing, conducting and/or instructing recreational or group activities.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, as required (Hawai‘i Type 3 or equivalent)
  • Possession of valid certifications prior to completion of probation: American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Certificate or equivalent; and Either an American Red Cross Community CPR Certificate, certificate of completion of the American Heart Association Health Care Provider course or equivalent. (These certificates must be maintained on a current basis thereafter).

Responsibilities

  • Plans and conducts instruction for a recreation activity or specialty in support of a planned recreation program
  • Manages the operations, maintenance, and use of neighborhood recreation facilities by promoting safe practices, preventing vandalism and abuse, and providing attendant and housekeeping services
  • Coordinates and schedules the use of a recreation facility, grounds, and equipment
  • Develops plans in consultation with supervisors
  • Teaches, officiates, and/or instructs participants in a recreational specialty in the area of culture, athletics, or leisure activity
  • May manage leagues
  • Prepares fields and facilities for recreational activities
  • Prepares groups for competitive activities
  • Recruits participants and volunteers
  • Assists in planning county-wide programs
  • Provides information about programs and events
  • May assist or provide information on how to reserve recreational facilities
  • Maintains athletic supplies and other equipment housed at a facility
  • Prepares and maintains reports and records
  • May supervise others
  • Performs other related duties as required
