About The Position

As a Recycling and Hazardous Waste Operator, you will have primary responsibilities for onsite recycling and hazardous waste execution at the Franklin, KY location. You will safely handle onsite hazardous and non-hazardous waste to meet RCRA EPA regulations to ensure timely waste processing, while controlling costs. You will maintain a safe and organized work environment to safely transport, bale and load recycling across the facility. As a part of the EHS organization, you will help mentor onsite employees on the recycling process and be a leader in identification and resolution of opportunities to improve our processes to avoid, reduce, reuse or recycle our product waste.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in environmental compliance management and/or sustainability in a manufacturing environment or 4 years in driving continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have or be able to complete training RCRA and DOT certifications.
  • Must be able to complete fork truck training and maintain a fork truck license.
  • Ability to learn company specific computer applications.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize work.

Responsibilities

  • Have or be able to complete RCRA certification annually and DOT hazmat ground shipper certification within 90 days upon hire and maintain the certifications every three years.
  • Have or be able to maintain an active Vybond fork truck license and be able to safely operate a fork truck.
  • In partnership with the Production teams, safely operate a fork truck to transport recycling gaylords or boxes from the production floor to the recycling staging area.
  • Provide feedback to production teams on recycling opportunities for improvement.
  • Have experience or be capable of learning how to safely use various types of baling equipment, such as vertical or horizontal bailers.
  • Have experience with or be able to learn how to safely load or unload trailers following Vybond’s Trailer Dock Release procedures.
  • Be responsible to safely work with hazardous and non-hazardous waste drums to ensure shipments meet RCRA and DOT regulations. This includes using drum lifters, drum lever bars, corner lifters, and hand tools to re-organize waste streams on pallets, tighten/loosen drum ring bolts, bung caps, etc.
  • Assist production to ensure empty drums are being loaded onto the empty drum trailer, and request pickups within a timely fashion.
  • Assist production to ensure empty totes are being loaded into the allocated trailer near the waste shed, and request pickups within a timely fashion.
  • Learn how to properly label hazardous and non-hazardous waste drums.
  • Ensure all hazardous waste drums have an accumulation start date and are shipped off site within the 90-day window provided by RCRA regulations.
  • Always maintain and improve the safety, organization and cleanliness of recycling staging areas, baling areas, and central hazardous/nonhazardous waste shed areas.
  • Notify the EHS coordinator when pickups are necessary for hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, empty drums, empty totes, etc.
  • Be responsible for loading recycling, hazardous or non-hazardous waste trucks, in coordination with the EHS Coordinator to safely weigh, take pictures and load trailers.
  • Learn how to properly complete a hazardous or non-hazardous waste manifest or e-manifest to meet RCRA requirements.
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement opportunities within recycling, hazardous or non-hazardous waste or other EHS related activities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
